I e-mailed to volunteer to help with the phone on the next local fund raising for PBS. But I have something else to do, I didn't actually called anyone, they just asked for my name and told to be there. Should I e-mail and tell them I'm not going, or should I just not show up?

I agree, tell them.

Although I see no legal trouble as a result, they will likely be mad at you and your reputation will be hurt. Trust is a great thing and not something people in today's society can afford to waste. Do the right thing and let them know.

It would kinda be polite to let them know you aren't going to be able to go. But since it's totally a "volunteer" thing, NO, you can't get in trouble for not going. It's not like they can take away your Sesame Street or anything.

be curteous and let them know you unfortunately will not be able to volunteer at the next fundraiser. that way they can fill in with someone else, if need be.
