New Balance are supposed to be good for flat feet. I am a runner too and if you go to a specialty running store and ask, they can find the best shoes for you based not only on your foot but the way you walk and run. They will ask you to do both in your bare feet and then in various pairs of running shoes that are designed for your foot and gait. If you are a serious runner or even semi-serious, that is the only way to go - it will prevent injury and also other parts of your body such as your knees, shins and ankles won't hurt either becuase you have the right support.

Hi Gi- Gi,
I don't think the shoes are the problem. I also have fallen arches and the only way I can stay comfortable in any pair of shoes is to buy special insoles (most stores carry them) to solve the problem. You could also try to find running shoes that are designed for people who work in the hospitality industry. They are required to be on their feet a lot so comfortable shoes are mandatory. Ask for these kind of shoes when you go shopping and I'm sure they may help. You may still need the insoles though!

I think podiatrists almost universally recommend New Balance shoes. You can also find a specialty running store in your area and they will help you find a pair of shoes that will fit your feet's unique characteristics.

Nike has some really good running shoes with arch support, but if you have a very low arch, you need to always wear shoes with arch support otherwise you're going to get horrible shin splints.

If you don't have arch supports, Dr. Scholl's has inserts you can put into any shoe. I use these and it helps out a lot.

I have the same problem, which also means I tend to get really painful bone spurs too.
New Balance shoes are the best!

I wear K-swiss and buy separte gel inserts. Your foot will form to the gel insert and it is very comfortable. I like the K-swiss because the top is not too tight.

Try this website for recommendations: http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/product/shoe-dog.jsp It will recommend not only based on your foot type, but based on how much you run, your pace, usual surface, and your weight.
