I know about going through Jerico, but the state department has indicated that it would be best to not enter through the West Bank for safety reasons. Where are other enrty points? I would prefer to go south, not north to get in, because it's sort of a volatile time for Syrian-Israeli relations.

I'd say you'd have to go south to Aqaba, then cross to Eilat. But it's really the long way!! Not to mention the *hot* way!!

And, in answer to Jonique C, the question is how to get *from* the East Bank!! You might want to read the question before you answer it...

There's the Sheikh Hussein crossing /Jordan River crossing.
Step 1: Take a bus or taxi from Amman to the bridge.
Step 2. Cross the border.
Step 3. Get a taxi to Beit Shean (maybe 10 km).
Step 4. Get a bus to Jerusalem.

On the other hand, if you take the bridge near Jericho, you're not going into Jericho. So, if you can find a bus or shared taxi, that's your best bet - it's the most direct route.

I'd go down to Aqaba and cross there, to Eilat. From there, go north to Jerusalem.
