I believe I have a female pigeon "nesting" or escaping the heat in the corner of my roof(lots of shade). She's making a deep, loud cooing sound much different than the usual cooing. When she sees me,she puffs herself up and does a sort of "stomp".Could she be hurt or guarding babies?

there is now a 2nd pigeon.One is "chubby" w/green head,orange eyes,dark faethers,white under wings,white "notch" on beak.Other is more slender,seems to be darker,stays behind first bird.

Pigeons, like many other birds, make different sounds when incubating and/or communicating to their clutch (litter). The behavior you described I would guess to most likely be a pigeon defending their eggs or clutch. Is this a rock pigeon or a mourning dove? I am fairly certain that mourning doves are ground nesters, so it could actually be an injured bird. I would do a web search to see where this type of pigeon nests. Also, many types of birds "talk" to their eggs. Both my male and female cockatiles have talked to the eggs in their nest.

She's guarding the kids and nest. That deep coo you here (almost a burring coo) is the warning it gives and the puff up is to make itself look bigger and more threatening.

BTW- if you see the "hen" during the day, it's likely the male. Males sit from about 10 am or so till about 4-5 pm and the hens usually sit the rest of the time.

Its possible that its male and female protecting there young.
Sounds could be warning signs between the two, and they
see you its a threat to them. As for being hurt, it would hard
to reach to where shes at. Could try using a ladder, but i
would be concern with the fact that there are babies or she
might fly away even if she is hurt. Be careful with how you
handle this matter. Good Luck.

Most likely she is nesting. That the typical behaviour of female pigeons during that time. But i must warn you, dont go near her for she might get a bit over protective.

If you don't see a nest or any nesting material, she may be hurt. Try looking around where she's been hanging out and see if you can find babies or a nest.

well, i raise pigeons and I'm pretty sure that they are mated. The answer why they are there is because they are probably seeking for a place to mate or a nesting area.

The one doing the strutting and cooing is a male , the other one is the female.

this may sound harsh but get her to move on, pigeons are notorious disease carriers. Their poop is almost toxic, ask the guys who have to clean up after them. They wear masks and protective clothing!
