Well, if you're in north america or europe (not sure about other places, but most likely there too) you can name your children whatever you want.
So, you can have your children in wedlock, then use the mother's maiden name or another last name entirely, to avoid using the tarnished name. Maybe your mother's maiden name?
Check out how many Hitlers are left listed in phone books, because it was a pretty common name before. People do this all the time.

Uh, no. Having children out of wedlock will only tarnish his name further, and the kids will have to deal with being illegitimate.

Nope. There's no need. He should just get a shiny new name, all nice & polished. Just throw that old, tarnished name in the trash where it belongs. Pick a name they all like (preferably something noble and shiny sounding), fill out the forms, pay the fee, and they're on their way.
After all, it worked for Bob Dylan, John Wayne, & Pee Wee Herman, didn't it?
