Visiting the Dentist is a good idea as they can perform a professional cleaning/whitening job.
You can maintain white teeth with various toothpastes such as ARM & HAMMER Enamel Care - the first and only toothpaste with liquid calcium (no kidding!) plus Baking Soda.

There are generally two ways you could go about getting whitter teeth. The first would be to go to your dentist and get a professional tooth whitening. Such will be expensive and can only be done so often (due to the harshness of the process) but is the most effective. The second is a home whitening system which will work over time, is much less expensive, and generally safe to you and your teeth if you follow the instructions. If you need specific advice, talk to your dentist.
One would also benefit by giving up tooth staining activities, such as coffee/tea drinking and smoking, if you do either of those.

The best way to whiten your teeth (but also the most expensive) is to go to the dentist and have them custom-mold trays for you. They'll also give you peroxide bleach that works much better than the stuff you can buy in stores. Rembrandt and Crest make several products that will help as long as you use them religiously for about four to six months, but they're still not as good as the stuff the dentist will give you. One thing you can do to keep your teeth from getting worse is drink less coffee, cola, red wine, or other dark-colored beverages. Good luck!

theres a lot of great teeth whitening products out there. try the crest whitening strips.
but remember. Not everyone that has white teeth was born that way. They probvably spent money on whitening products. Teeth are naturally supposed to be ivory.
Also, you should try brushing your teeth alot with dentist recommended prodcts like crest, coltage, etc.

It depends on whether you want natural ways or chemical ones. In the old days they used to brush soot on there teeth to whiten them. I read some where a few years ago that rubbing fresh strawberries on them and then brushing them well helps them go white.... failing that the dentist has bleaches and stuff for it.

I just want to make a comment in reference to everyone's suggestion that you use whitening toothpaste.
Whitening toothpaste does not actually whiten your teeth, They do not contain any whitening agents in them. The only things that whiten your teeth are peroxide based products. Whitening toothpastes are meant to 'whiten' by cleaning your teeth of surface stains.
In fact, whitening and tartar control toothpastes are more abrasive than most to clean off the aforementioned surface stains and can actually cause tooth sensitivity.
You can try over the counter whitening products and if that doesn't achieve the results you want, visit your dentist. :-)

Try Completely White, it's offered by Dr. Andrew Turchin at Completely Bare Spa on 18th and 5th. It left my teeth bright white, had ZERO sensitivity and it was done in a super comfortable black leather chaise instead of dental chair...what could be better??

visit a dental hygenist. One visit for a proper clean and polish will do the trick for you and cost less in the long run than all the teath whitening kits you can buy these days

teeth are not naturally 'bright white' - its a myth, and to make them that colour is totally unatural. the best way to get healthy teeth is by drinking plenty of milk, saltwater mouth washes each night, and use Arm and Hammer tooth paste

You can buy expensive whitening toothpaste, but as the other answerer said, teeth are not naturally snowy white. Whitening them can weaken them.
