I'll take you seriously. Speaking from the experience of my nephew however (whose almost as good a shot as I am now). My brother thought the same way as you apparently do. His wife of course was adamantly opposed.
Anyways, of course the smaller the gun the better.
Being away from other people is key.
Put your son on your lap and hold almost all of the weight of the gun (necessary because of his lack of strength unless Herculean).
You fire the gun and make sure the child sees the result. Shoot cans or bottles. Or have your wife hold the babe whilst you just fire at the cans.
Finally, make sure you give him a chance to pull the trigger, make sure the gun is aimed at a can and let him take the credit of the shot and give him some proper positive reinforcement for the success.
Either all those steps or buy him one of those wall projection games and teach him from there (the safer way).
Come on people, if a parent wants to teach, let us help when asked and make sure it is done properly and safely. If this is a joke question, I hope someone who is serious takes the given advice.
By the way, my nephew is now 6 and is, as mentioned before, almost as good a shot as I am (we're working on bows now).

evantiner has the right idea. Cork guns and rubber darts could be a start. However you will probably just want to upgrade to a BB gun before long. So you might as well get him into a CO2 BB gun now. The pump rifle "Pellet Guns" might be difficult for him to pump at such a young age. I would wait until he's at least 4 before you set him up with a 22. long rifle. Send him through the NRA hunter safety course. Start teaching him survival skills. Finally...outfit him with Camouflage army fatigues and teach him to be nice to the girls in pre-school. Good luck, and may the force be with you!

A child should never learn and no I'm not against ownership of guns. There are rules in the state you live in regarding children with guns- here a child can not learn to fire legally until they are sixteen- You can and should teach your child the proper way to handle a gun and they should never handle your weapon unless you are present- That way if they do shot anybody accidentally- you are either that person or you can call for help ASAP

Hello, your son is to young to handle firearms. Start him with the ol rubber band gun or a soft dart gun first. Kids need to learn respect with "toy" guns first. Even play guns are never pointed at another person. When your son is old enough, (six to eight years old) you and he should attend a hunter safety course which will teach all the basics and fundamentals of firearms. Good luck

You already asked this question and received a lot of answers. Your wife is not stupid, you are being stupid. You have to teach gun safety before teaching them to fire a gun.

Learning to use a weapon is serious! I first fired a rifle when I was four. I learned quickly that the rifle was dangerous. I didn't discharge another firearm until I was twelve.
Be very sure of your son's ability to understand. Be very sure of what you are teaching as well. Two years of age is too young. It is really simple. It is even too young for safety lessons. Wait until he can comprehend what is going on in the world.

Sorry dude, you've actually blown it. Official indoctrination age for proper firearm instruction is 1. He should have teethed on a cleaning rod. By the age of 2 he should have been given pieces of a pistol to try and reassemble instead of blocks. By the time he's 3 he should be avidly playing with ammunition casings and learning to identify weapons from around the world.

I think that you and your wife need to have your heads examined. A two or three year old has no business knowing how to fire a gun. They need to be old enough to understand to consequences of firing that gun before they do it.

Are you serious? I can't believe you would even consider keeping a gun within REACH of your 2 year old let alone trying to teach them to fire a gun! You and your wife should be reported for child endangerment. He/she could kill themselves or you and your wife!
