do woteva the above answers say regarding spyware etc.(which probly wont work btw...) and if that doesnt work the no.1 way of almost garunteeing a fix is to format and reinstall windows and start from scratch. yeah its a mission and boring and cumbersome and a waste of time, but short of buying a new pc its the best. Before you format make sure u have backed up all your irreplaceble documents/pictures/movies/files etc onto a different hard drive or cd or flash disk etc.
if u dont know how to format and reinstall im sure some lonely guy will be willing to help if u ask how on Y! Answers.

It can be anything. Could be a virus, as others suggested, but it also could be a physical defect of a hard drive or a failing chip somewhere. Get professional help (and be ready to pay professional rates).

Install these:
www.ccleaner.com
www.spybot.com
Then:
check for updates on Spybot, scan and clean.
For ccleaner, right click the recycle bin and run ccleaner
Then right click the trash bin again, "open" ccleaner and use the scan-for-issues tool.
If that doesn't fix it, might need to reinstall your Operating System or get a new PC.
Good luck!

Check the amount of RAM you have. I recommend 512 or better.

Run anti-virus & anti-spy.
If you find anything, delete them.
Reduce the number of installed softwares.
