The word of God was here before you were born and will still be here long after your gone. You can fight it as much as you like; Others before you have tried and fail. You cannot win a war against God, as much as you have tried. If christian bashing makes you feel good then you have something in common with Lucifer, he hates Christians. But if you get tired of serving Satan you can repent and come to Jesus and start afresh a better life. God bless you, Jesus loves you!!!

I am going to treat your question as if you are ernestly trying to get the question answered as opposed to asking a rhetorical question to which you already are biased to the answer. The problem isn't the intellect of Christians as much as the self-perceived intellect of the non-Christian. You see Christians do not have a hard time distinguishing from fictional literature as much as you try to generalize what it is they actually have issue with when it comes to this literature. Now I can't speak on Dante's Inferno because I have never read it, but since people brought up Harry Potter and so many brought up The Divinci Code I will comment on those to hopefully humble some of you who are proud and think you know what it means to be a Christian.

The issue with Harry Potter has nothing to do with it being fictional vs non fictional. Christians do not believe that Harry Potter is anything but fiction. The issue that arises is the influence that it has on people. The Harry Potter books are designed to be engaging and for the reader to emerse themselves in the story. The problem is there are some people who would like to perform magic for real, which can lead the person to dabble in the black arts, etc. It's somewhat like a person who tries smoking, which can possibly lead to trying marijuana, and then possibly onto harder drugs. I am not saying yes that is going to happen, but you who are quite intelligent are getting what I am saying. And for a Christian this is what they get concerned about. Not that they think these books are non-fiction but that people will take concepts (i.e. witchcraft) and try to practice and dabble in them which can lead to the practice and dabble in demonology and the occult.

Now on to The Divinci Code. The problem once again isn't that the book is fiction vs. non-fiction, but the principles the book are based on. There are people who believe that the principles this book are based on are true. As you saw when the movie was coming out in the theaters there were many TV programs, books, etc. based on the principles and philosophy that was behind the book. There are people out there (non-Christian) who actually believe there is merit to these principles. From a Christian point-of-view this is dangerous and the reason why they are up in arms regarding the Divinci Code, because the underlying principles will cause people to come to some logical and rational belief that the principles of the Code has merit and believe that it was possible for Jesus to marry Mary Magdeline and grow old and die as opposed to die on the cross or the other variations thereof to this theory. Can you see how this belief can be dangerous to have through the eyes of the Christian when their beliefs are centered around the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross? Then to come out and say this wasn't true? It would negate the very foundation of the religion.

That is my take and hopefully if you are open-minded enough you can understand and see maybe where Christians are coming from...I am not saying you have to agree and I am sure there might even be some Christians themselves who disagree with me, but at least my hope is that you will at least say, I don't agree, but I see where you are coming from.

Some Christian fictional Literature is based on FACT. Others obviously are speculation, & then some are plain old good fiction.
You mentined the Left Behind series, the author also has written several "Apolgetic" books. Non-fiction on the Book of Revalation ffrom the Bible.

No, I don't. The antichrist is real. The "Left Behind" series is about something that will happen. Dante has never been to Hell, so it was his interpretation. And lastly, the Bible is reality. God sent His only Son to die for our sins that we may be saved from Hell. To me, that is as real as you can get. I have bet my immortal soul on this and know it to be true. This I believe!

Have a hard time distinguishing? I don't think so. Fictional literature is just what it is, fictional. The Bible, on the other hand is not fictional in my opinion, and I believe there have been many truths to date that have proved as such.

No not at all. I have a degree in Literature and I'm a Christian. The only book I know to be true is the Bible. I hope that you're reading it. It's better to read and understand for yourself, then to sit on Yahoo! Answers and let people persuade you with their stupidity. That would be the non believers.

Oh, they can tell at least as well as atheists.

The Last Temptation of Christ and The DaVinci Code were both touted at 'truth' by the media before Christians stood against them.

Yep. Just as they blame "The Da Vinci Code" and "Harry Potter" novels for being sacreligious and promoting witchcraft. It seems they have never been able to distinguish fact from fiction. Ironic...

no but most people have a hard time grasping reality until their little pink house with the white picket fence gets blown to smitherines by a bomb ... people have a bad habit of fooling themselves into believing any number of delusions about reality truth and safety until it is too late .... history bears this out explicitly ... so say what u will and critisize who you will but it will never change the absolute truth whatever that may be.
