there is a difference between a cut and a trim. If you ask your mom to take you to cheap salon- like one in walmart or something. You could get a trim. It makes a world of difference. Then for a hairstyle, it depends on your type of hair. No matter what type of hair you have I suggest you work on clean, freshly blow-dried hair. My niece is your age and she LOVES when I do her hair with some pieces crimped and some braided and all the rest straightened with a straightener. First I would take a few small strands(cm. thick) and braid them. Next I would straighten the rest of your hair. Then lastly take a crimper and crimp some strands throughout your hair.

If that one doesnt work for you, grab a cosmogirl or seventeen mag and see what kind of styles are in there that maybe you could work with.

good luck!

You really ought to get a professional cut. If your mom thinks it's too expensive, see if she'll agree to take you to one of the cheaper places--like Supercuts.

Look on this page: http://www.bobhaircuts.com/worship_bobs.html

See if you like any of the bob cuts there. A stylist can do a really nice, long one, where the sides just frame the face, but you get to keep your long hair. It's a classic style, and I'll bet your mom would love it on you.

Doesn't hurt to ask.

you could have one with str. bangs. and layered hair or one with the bob hair style.

Anywayz, why dont you go to the library or get your hands on a hairstyle magazine.

PS: are you sure you wanna cut your own hair? I mean you've never cut your hair to begin with. I suggest you beg or tell your mom that you badly need a haircut.

Professionals are always better than amateurs.
