I've crossed into Mexico (by car, bus, and on foot) at 6 different ports of entry, and I cross 2 or 3 times a week in El Paso for my job. To date, I've never been stopped by Mexican immigration to get in to Mexico.

As for going back in to the US with the least hassle, go wherever/whenever the drunk, college kids are crossing. Juarez, Nuevo Laredo, or Tijuana at about 4 or 5 in the morning on weekends, all you'll be asked is "what's your citizenship?" and even the most drunken response of "Uhhh-Merrrrrr-i-cannnn" will be all it takes to cross. Also, at the Sonoita point of entry during Spring Break. All the kids from Arizona schools go to a poor man's Cancun just south of there for Spring Break. When they all come back across, it's usually too much for the small border patrol station to handle, so they'll just start waving cars that look innocent right through.

I read Arizona is the easiest. Most are not taking the chance to cross illegally through California or Texas anymore. Come through Arizona it is so easy.

P.S. going through the legal channel is always the best though.
