All of the Rand McNally maps have the rest stops marked out as a little blue house by the roadside.
The Rand McNally maps also contain all of the State Highway Admin phone numbers for every state.

Try to find an updated map of the region you are traveling and they will most likely have signs for rest stops along the way. The signs on my AAA maps are green triangles along the highway. Or you can just drive and read the blue information signs on the highway.

Map out your journey. Contact the department of state and motor vehicles for each state you are passing through. They can send you info, tour guides etc
