Try soaking his paw in warm water and epsom salts to reduce the swelling. Look for signs of splinter that may be irritating it.

I'm going to agree that there may be something stuck in it or it could be a bee, spider, or even ant bite. Anything's possible.

Thoroughly exam his paw to see if you notice anything that could be irratating him. If you need to, shave the area down a bit (the hair will grow back).

Give him 24 hours and see how he's doing. Otherwise, take him to the vet for an exam.

Have you checked the paw for something sticking into his toe? Has he injured one of his toe nails?

I would take him into the Vet, after all you have a fairly expensive breed. His health and happiness needs to be taken seriously.

dogs often get some hair caught in their nails, if the nails get cracked or too long. take him to a groomer, and get his nails and the hair on his paws trimmed down. if this is the problem, the swelling will go down quickly, and your dog will be romping around in no time.

if this doesn't help, check with your vet. it could be something caught in his pad, or it could be bone spurs. only a vet would be able to properly diagnose a problem like that.

I would see a vet. There are conditions that this breed gets that have similar symptoms. Shar-pei fever or something like that.
It gets bad around 18 months, but symptoms of swelling around joints can occur earlier.

That is why they are called a "vet's best friend"!!!!!

I highly suggest going to the vet. Anything swolen isn't good. My dog has had a swollen paw, and the vet gave him a perscription for it. As you might have guessed, it cleared up very quickly.

He might have either stepped on something or even a bee or spider bite. Keep an eye on it and if it gets worse or if it does not improve within 24 hrs, see your vet. Pay attention to his behavior too! If he becomes lathargic, short of breath or clumsy, thats serious!
