I'm not on any side in fact Im not religious or aphiliated what so ever. I beleive this is an advantage. But Hezbollah kidknapped 2 soldiers. Instead of doing a prisoner swap, which Israel has done many times, it decides to flatten an area which 'might' have Hezbollah fighters in it. Apprt from the fact that this tactic isnt working, how is it justified to capitulate civilian homes and infrastructure with it "high precision" weaponary.

I realise that Hezbollah are dispicable terrorists who are firing rockets at innocent people but the vast majority of the force is from Israel and its killing hundreds. Your thoughts please.

I agree with you....

Invading a country for 2 soldiers, still could not get that....
Unfortunately the only people who are suffering are innocent and kids...

I think it's about time Israel eliminated Hezbollah!! I think it's time for Israel to end the prisoner swap, etc. The goal of a war should be to WIN! Which, I hope Israel will be the victors. I hate the fact that innocent people must die in wars. I REALLY hate the fact that Hezbollah uses Lebanese citizens as human shields and pictures of their dead children for propaganda. It's despicable!! Hezbollah killed Americans in the past, so they are an enemy of the United States as well. If Israelis can wipe Hezbollah off the face of the earth, the whole world will be a better place. Syria and Iran fund Hezbollah, which makes them terrorist states...so THEY should be NEXT!

Yes, they have gone too far, and pointlessly.

The only way that this would not have been too far is if
they really did eliminate Hezbollah - but instead of eliminating
it, they have inadvertently made it stronger.

They need to drive a wedge between Hezbollah and the
rest of the Lebanese. Perhaps, the simplest way of doing it
would be to say "As long as Hezbollah hides within the
other citizens of Lebanon, we cannot distinguish. For
every Jew killed, we will kill (say) 200 people in the area
where we think Hezbollah may be hiding. We believe that
it is in your best interest to bring Hezbollah out into the
open so we may rid the world of this pest and stop
killing innocent people. However, we cannot make you."

The point is that by not having any quid-pro-quo, the
Lebanese are left with having only Hezbollah to support
because they are the only ones defending them.

With the "we cannot distinguish" logic, Israel would be
considered a monsterous killing state, but it would (I believe)
end Hezbollah and might well deter that sort of terrorism in the
future.

When Hitler had Warsaw flattened, the world was aghast. It brought the war to a serious start. When the Japanese did their dastardly deeds in Shanghai and Nanking, the world was equally appalled. When the allies in turn began flattening Axis cities, we became heroes. It brought the war to an end. Whether Israel is bringing the war to a start or an end, they seem resolved to say you've badgered us into a fight so here it is--pack up or get to punching.

Frankly, I think they've exercised tremendous restraint so far. Were I the Israeli leader, I would have said something like forget the expensive tight target weapons, carpet bomb the place until either we run out of bombs or they run out of rockets and people to fire them. For those of you who don't know anything of war besides what you see on TV and movies, that is not what is happening right now.

far to far:
The only clear reason why Israel is in that miss is the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian land . if Israel implement the UN 242 resolution in full there will be an end to the on going wars in the Middle East. Israel up to this day will not tell the world and the Palestinian that it will withdraws from all the land mentioned in UN Resolution. Israel want to keep land that was never part of Israel and this is why Israel will never have a lasting peace with native Palestinian people .
End occupation

Yes they have, Hezbollah is firing rocket towards Israeli city because they don't have the pin point technology or perhaps because they are terrorist (as Bush and his poodle Tony Blair says), but what's wrong with Israel why are they bombing whole villages, town and it innocent people just to punish a few in there. just think of India bombing Kashmir or Britain carpet bombing N Ireland to get rid of its problem(terrorist), would anybody accept that. Innocent people should always be protected, be it your own country's or another.
I strongly don't agree with Hezbollah firing towards innocent Israeli either. and I think US should be able to provide a solution by training and providing Hezbollah with state of the art technology.

it's a scheme to control the whole are, & our president should be much aware for what's going on over there instead of just pushing & pushing our soldiers 2 iraq.

Hezbollah's rockets are hitting civilian areas in Israel also. Their rockets can't travel as far as Israel's, though Hezbollah rockets have gone too far into Israel. Now they're hiding behind Lebanese civilians and blaming Israel for their deaths...
Looks more like Hezbollah has gone too far.

Just to point out, also, the slaughter on Qana was justified because according to the Prime Minister interim - that is where Hizbollah was hiding their arsenal.

Both red cross workers as well as christian citizens say there is nothing there in the rubble and the Israeli army hasn't even looked for the evidence they said is there.

I think both sides are repugnant and Americans only get one side of the story.
If Israeli hasn't gone tooo far, they sure as Hell equate to Hizbollah.

I am in theory not against disproportionate responses, but Israel is probably playing into the hands of Iran here: Palestinians will lean towards Hezbollah, and Shiites in Iraq will abandon moderate positions and lean towards Iran (see Grand Ayatollah Sistani's recent warning to U.S.). The U.S. needs to bring Syria back into the Sunni bloc (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc.) and isolate Iran. Israel is not increasing its security with its recent actions. Conventional warfare, as we have seen in Iraq, does not work well against guerrilla forces.

No, Israel hasn't gone far enough. The fact that innocents are being killed and harmed, while bad! is not Israel's fault, its Hezbollah's. Their the ones hiding amongst them. If I saw Hezbollah running towards my village, I'd be FIRING AT THEM, not waving them towards US, then wondering why we were shelled on!
