Parakeets make excellent pets for children and adults. They love to play with you and are very easy to tame and handle. Unlike other birds parakeets let you hold them and usually don't fly away. But if you get one then always close the door in that room. And no high ceilings. As for lovebirds, go to http://www.parrotparrot.com/lovebirds/

I've owned parakeets & a friend of mine has had a lovebird. Both are very sweet birds when bonded with & handled often! If you'd like both then get one of each but keep them in separate cages...this is just in case they would not get along. They will be able to keep each other company & "talk" to each other if you keep the cages next to each other. Good luck & have fun with them! :-)

Id get a cockatiel. They are larger, talk, love to be held, are real characters. Get one of whatever you get, two will bond and leave you out. I'd have a dozen tiels but only have one for this very reason. Don't hang a mirror in the cage either, unless you don't care to ever hold your bird. They bond with the reflection and can snap at you when you try to hold them. Lovebirds are best in pairs but don't plan to hold them. Parakeets are harder to hand hold but it can be done.

Both make great pets - you will get returned in love and caring the time and efforts you put into them. A keet will stay 'tamer' easier than a lovie. A lovie has a high shrill call and a keet has its own quieter language. Both deserve lots of attention - if you think you will tire of it or get involved in something else that will make things easier to just ignor the bird for days at a time, perhaps consider something less demanding that doesn't bond with humans. Both species need 'out of cage' time daily.

You can have both. Understand the breeds. Parakeets are great, but not quite as smart. If you want a true companion, get a love bird. Only one! It will focus totally on you. They think that they are "big birds" . Be prepared to give your new friend all the love and attention it needs. Good luck.

Both make great pets if kept single and handled often (if you have a pair of either, they will likely bond with each other and not you.) The only pluses that parakeets have over lovebirds, in my opinion, is that they don't bite as hard, and their calls are not as shrill.

Male birds tend to have brighter and bolder colorations. that's to entice the "females" for the duration of mating season. "you may tell the gender of your parakeet based on the colour of the cere. The cere is the element of dermis precise above your parakeets beak, and varies between the adult males and girls of the species. On a female parakeet the cere can variety from a white/easy blue colour to a faded tan. while the female is able to mate, the cere would grow to be a dismal brown and grow to be flaky. On a male parakeet, the cere would be a blue or a purplish-blue colour. while it incorporates parakeets, blue truly is for boys. keep in mind that those rules do no longer persist with to parakeets decrease than one twelve months of age. till a parakeet is approximately one twelve months previous, the cere of male and female parakeets are an identical colour, a vibrant crimson or delicate purple. as nicely to the adjustments between cere, male and female parakeets have modifications in disposition. Male parakeets frequently sing greater, are greater outgoing, and could bob their heads. the female parakeet is frequently greater reserved and territorial, sing much less, and characteristic a tendency to make a noisy squawking "offended" parakeet sound."

If you decide on a lovebird,go for one that's handfed.Parent raised lovebirds are mighty hard to tame.Parent raised budgies seem to be much easier to work with.I've owned many, many birds, from budgies to cockatoos;and I still rank my little lovebird as the all around best bird i've ever had.Lovebirds ain't really talkers, but they are pretty goofy. But remember,HANDFED.They cost quite a bit more, but there's really no taming involved.

I myself have 4 parakeets and they are all very friendly and loving. They are easy to take care of and easy to clean their cage. I suggest you get a parakeet.
