I mean I don't know which relegion to b-lieve, and all they tell you is "If you don't read the bible, go to church, and b-lieve in god ur going to hell" and "If u really b-lieve in god you would b reading the bible instead of doing all the things u do."

I mean they cant tell me to read what could b a bunch of lies in my valuble time. Im not saying the bible is. I belive in god all the way but I wonder if thats what he wants me to do. I wonder if he just wants us to b-lieve in him and not sin.

I also think that athiest should not go to hell. They have no reason to believe in god. Its not like he wrote "I exist" on sand or anything.

Plz give me reasonable answers not "Ur such a sinner" cuz I'll tend to b-lieve I am right.

I was really with you until the 3rd paragraph...pretty sure the equivalent to "I exist" was the 1st commandment.

Also, I don't know if you can logically choose a religion, G*d is something that supersedes man's logic. Thus I would just put yourself in a situation to allow the correct religion to come to you, and then ignore all the blowhards who come up after your decision.

As for whether or not you should go to church, my suggestion is to go to church not because you have to, for fear of some sort of retribution, but because you want to go. Personally I find church to be a nice place to be at ease and hear some interpretations on the good word.

My suggestion for you is to go to church next Sunday (from how you wrote your entry I'm going to assume that you are Christian) and after the services talk to the priest. Tell him (for the sake of my answer I will also assume you are Catholic) what you are thinking and see what he has to say. There are a lot of knowledgeable people out there (more knowledgeable than you are going to get from the average Yahoo! Answers person) who can be a lot of help here.

Best of luck and I'll be praying for you

I think church is important because it gives you a set time each week to devote to God. It surrounds you with other believers and it reminds you of what you ought to be doing. Otherwise, we often grow lax and get off track. Reading the Bible is good for the same reason, in that it serves as a reminder of God's love for you and how he wants you to live. I don't think either are requirement to get into heaven, but they're helpful for living a good life. Believing in God and not sinning - if you can do that without church or the Bible - will probably be enough. As to atheists, I can't really say. I think anyone who lives a moral life will be okay, but that's just my opinion; it's God who gets to decide. Either way, I think stuffing your religion down other people's throats is always a bad idea. Respect one another, no matter what they believe.

Religion, defined, is something people do over and over without really getting anything enjoyable out of it.

Real Christianity is having an enjoyable life with Jesus as the center. That doesn't mean you'll be perfect. No one is perfect, Jesus doesn't expect you to be. He wants you to be but He can't expect you to be.

People who tell you that if you sin your not a Christian are wrong. Christians sin! They're just trying not to, that is the difference between a Christian and a non-Christian.

People who shove things like reading the Bible and that God is real down your throat are not going to convert you, obviously. You have a sense of that. All people should know that.

You are correct. The purpose of church is to keep you confused and frightened enough that you won't think about leaving. And they want to keep you there why? Look at the collection plate for your answer.
And that is the point of church and religion after all. The veneer of "good works" is extremely thin and in some places, absolutely see through.
Money is the point of church. Nothing more.
Stay home, do something constructive on your sundays.

Oh and 'missy answers' could you show me those stones? No, of course not. Because, like everything else about your mythology, it exists ONLY in a book of... mythology. Pretty convenient for you but for people who have an IQ slightly higher than thier shoe size, it's a laughably stupid arguement.

Listen, since you're confused about which religion to believe, think about it this way. Think about your struggles, and you trials and tribulations. Think about why you get angry, sad, depressed, or hurt. Think about your situations in life that cause you to turn into a person that you don't want to be. And then think about all the religions people have told u about. Which one do you think will solve all of those problems that you have in your life. Look into the most inner parts of your heart where that empty spot that religion fills, and ask, which religion can fill this spot COMPLETELY?
I know what I'd pick. I'd pick being a Christian; because it's more than a religion, it's a way of life. And you stop clouding your mind with all that's going around you in this world and you focus in on one thing: Jesus, and what He did for you, how much He loves you inspite of every sin that you commit. You realize that even though this world is crashing down around us, you can still have peace because you know that when this is all over, you will live in heaven with God.
Now, I'm not the one to trick people, or deceive, I'm telling you like it is. Jesus is the center of my joy. No matter what people do to me, no matter how people treat me, no matter what is going on around me.
You may ask, "well how do you know He's real?"
And no, I haven't physically seen Him with my natural eye, but I see Him with my spiritual eyes. When I don't think something will work out right for the longest time, and then God will show me a scripture in His word that says, "be anxious for nothing," or "trust in the Lord and He will direct your paths," I can be at peace in the midst of turmoil, and sooner or later things always "work together for good to them that love the Lord." (Romans 8:28)
If your confused about what to do with your life, give it to Jesus. The Bible says that He will order and direct our steps if we let Him. It's not a fairytale, not a joke or a game. It's real Jesus is real. And all you have to do is RSVP to Him and He'll hear you and love on you forever.
God Bless.

There are no good reasons to believe.

One of the reasons I no longer believe is that I noticed that religious arguments tend not to be supported by logic and reason. They tend to be appeals to emotion and sloppy judgement. We don't hold religions to the same critical standards we hold everything else. If we did, we'd all reject them as fairy tales.

Mutterhals has a good suggestion--read books. Her link is good if you look at the company book suggestions, but beware of the reader suggestions. You know you have an extremely biased sample if seven of the top ten books of the 20th century end up, by vote, being by Ayn Rand, L. Ron Hubbard, and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Just go to a few different churches until your comfortable with the message given. There doesnt have to be a label on you. As long as you believe in some sort of higher being it's all good.

Your logic is astounding... He didn't write "I exist" on sand, but he wrote "I am the Lord your God... you shall have no other gods before Me" on STONE.

God's word says he demands perfection. If you stand before Him on judgment day and he judges you by that standard, what will you tell Him?

That's why He sent His Son, to take the punishment for our sins, because there's no way we could go to heaven in our sins and justice still be served.

I don't know who keeps telling you, you are going to hell but they are wrong for saying that.

The bible is good to read and serving God is great once you start doing it, maybe you need to get involved in your church, as well as the bible.

And God did say that He existed, he wrote it in the Bible, Jesus did miracles

i think u sound pretty smart. you can't believe in something just b/c somebody in a church tells you to. i think you've gotta just spend a little time & be willing to learn about different religions. and don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something. & if they can't give you the answers you need then move on & learn something else. i personally believe in god but i don't believe in hell b/c in the bible he condemned the act of burning children as a sacrifice. & to be honest i have absolutely no respect for a parent who would burn a child b/c it was naughty & i don't think god would either. anyways best of luck on your search - i hope you find something to have faith in :)
