If you like bowing down to statues of men riding various animals and leave them fruit and money to atone for your evil deeds, if you think insence has superbnatural qualities aside from giving people headaches go with Buddhism. OR. you can realize that it's not about you being good enough in order to be accepted by God, but rather God being good enough to accept you even with all your faults and short comings. It's not about what you do in order to achieve some sense of righteousness it's about Jesus being Righteous and covering the things that make us dirty.

There's a lot of stupid things out there and even Christians (especially in some cases) have some really dumb ideas. What it comes down to is knowing God loves you for who you are, not what you do and this love is what drove Jesus to endure such pain and hell so that you wouldn't have to. Having faith in that love and grace is ALL that you have to do. Nothing else.

It's your choice. Rituals or relationship?

This is one of the hardest questions that anyone can ever ask. It really depends on you, the beliefs that you start with (moral and otherwise), and what you're looking for. Lots of people are going to tell you that Christianity is the best (because most religious people on these boards are Christian). They may be right and they may be wrong. I'd suggest that you explore your options by reading up on some of the more major religions (Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism), and see what you like and don't like. Wikipedia is a good resource to get a general overview of different religions. Good luck!

Searching Yahoo! for "best new religion" took me to a page from the F~RE~E dating-site, PlentyOfFish, describing "The Church of Honor and ... (somethin`, I forgot)."

Basically, it's precepts are "Ev`rything's Alright," which is the basic precept of Roman Catholicism (once you're trained, retrained, and re-retrained in the 'fact' that there is One God in Three Persons who is all-powerful and that it is thus good to be in His Good-Graces).

Personally, I'm an Agnostic Roman Catholic ... meaning I've been taught (and "believe") that there is One God in Three Persons etc., but I don't "know" it.

However, Roman Catholicism is a family-religion (as is most Christianity, being founded on the precepts of paternal power). "Aiming to 'discover' and gain the power of supernatural divinity" won't get you to His Power. Only during the time you befriend a Catholic, perhaps marry one and have children and gain the "fealty" that maturity brings, will you find that 'Power.'

I've been skeptical too, knowing that the physical-proofs outweigh the stories of religion. But--going the befriending/marrying/maturing-route--you learn that none of the history before "you" really matters (except as morals and fairy-tales).

So if you want religion for the Truths behind it, just research; but if you want religion for the Power of Respect, hang-out at libraries and book/coffee-shops and Universities and all the other places brainy-Christians can be found!

Let me give you a definition of religion that works.

"Religion is something that man does."

In other words, religion has everything to do with man and little or nothing to do with God. Your first responder hit it pretty good.

If you want to play find yourself a religion. If ur serious, with all you've got, ask God to come and find you.

Your answer. There is no best religion. They are all based on human footings. True Christianity is an organism of spiritually linked believers, and not an organization of religious or social reform. God looks upon the heart. The choice is between God and religion and between life and death.

Organized religion can no more guarantee or offer me life than it could make me pregnant if I were female.

You are wise to be skeptical. There is a living God that has answers that come alive in your heart. Look until you know that you know that you know.

Not relative truth, but complete truth. It's stood firm throughout thousands of years and has so much evidence to show it's historical and archeoligical accuracy. Everything prophecied in the Old Testiment has been fulfilled thus far and continues to be fulfilled today. Even with all that what I beleive and hold on to with faith is the very words spoken, that of love and forgiveness that we all can have in Jesus. Not by works, but just by faith. The bible doesn't have an underlying agenda, it just teaches people about themselves, about God and the grace that is offered even though we don't deserve it.

This is my faith, don't take my word for it though. Look into it yourself. I was a follower of the world and found myself in a blind search for significance and a constant pursuit

religion is a personal choice based on what you truly believe. If you don't really believe the teachings of a religion, then don't worry about it. Don't forget to look into all of the teachings of a religion before you join, and consider it's representatives. You must weigh the positives and the negatives in each religion and consider the commitments.

This is something that only you can answer.

I know someone that joined the LDS religion but he did it so his now wife would marry him and not because that is what he believed in. This is unfair to everyone around him including himself.

The most important thing is to pray and be true to your self. Religion is not an easy thing and there are quite a few that will entice you with what you want to hear but ask yourself is that best for you and the people around you?

Of course I am biased but if you look at the LDS religion we have been told not to smoke or use any tabbaco product since the 1800s which has not been the norm for the world. Not an easy thing for people to accept in the past but you look at it now it is a wonderful blessing. The same can be said about the beliefs of marriage, sex, and family.

But again whatever you choose make sure you do it for your self and you pray about it.

to Mormon to Buddhist etc, has this sense that works produce righteousness, but how can something established by a man himself appeal to an eternal God? It's still temporal and limited. Using the created to try to lift oneself to the creator, who's to say that their way acutally works?

I am a Jehovah's Witness but that is because that is where my heart led me. However, to each his own, you need to do some research and perhaps visit different places and see what appeals to you. The thing that interested me most was Psalms 83:18 where it says that god has a name. But like i said that is something that you need to find out for yourself. If you know any Jehovah Witnesses then I'm sure they would be more than willing to answer any questions you may have.

The church of Christ goes by the Bible, and not a man-made creed, catechism or discipline.

What's the difference? An example.

The Bible says that baptism is an immersion or burial (Romans 6:3-5) which requires much water (John 3:23) for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38), washing away sins (Acts 22:16) which now saves us (1 Peter 3:21). Therefore, that is what the church of Christ teaches.

Most denominations say that baptism is 'an outward sign of an inward grace' (Book of Common Prayer), a testimony that we are already saved (Hiscox Baptist Manual).

If they went by the Bible only, we would "all speak the same thing, and ... [have] no divisions among you; but ... be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment" (1 Corinthians 1:10).

The answer is to look at what the Bible says, and not what men say.
