I am 27 and just diagnosed as bi-polar about 7 months ago. I am taking 7 pills a day and I can't stand it anymore. I take Lithium, Lamictal and Paxil CR. They make me sick at my stomach and even looking at the pill bottles makes me sick. I stopped taking the Lithium and Limictal about a week ago but I need to find an herbal substitute for these.

Before anyone degrades me for not taking my meds... I see my doctor regularly, I have an appt. today in fact. If I ever feel that I may do something stupid I have numerous people to call. I am not going to refuse to take all meds. I just stopped these because I was getting sick and I knew I was going to the doctor today.
I have tried the self medicating method with pot and it helped so much! The only problem was that I got to the point where I could not function if I did not do it. I was always so dang irritable and ready to flip out. That was right before I was diagnosed.

My girlfriend, her sister, and her roommate are all bi-polar. One more manic. my g/f who is bipolar 1. They've been on all sorts of different antidepressants, tranquilizers, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics. It's horrible to see their stages, and I can only imagine the pain you go through.
2 of the 3 of them smoke marijuana, not a lot, but it seems to keep them calm and most of the time happy. Although I cannot recommend you do that, because you may have kids, and it's illegal, but it does help them stay mellow.
My girlfriend just pointed out, also try a multivitamin, (One-A-Day, StressTabs)
For other medicines, she recommends you talk to your doctor about Thorzine (low str), and effexor. They're her most recent, and seem to be working the best.

You are already taking some excellent medications for bipolar disorder. If you are having difficulty with them you need to see your doctor for adjustments. There are no herbal remedies that are worth taking but hey, go ahead, when you get out of control and kill someone you can be placed in a psych hospital and take the meds. Whichever way you like it to happen is fine with me just stay clear while you're doing it.

If you can give your complete details and I can help with Homeopathic Medicine I have to know exactly how and what you feel to suggest an appropriate remedy for you. You see Homeopathy Treats The Person Not The Disease or Disorder so how and what you feel are the best guiding symptoms to the remedy which is the most similar to your symptoms,

find someone in your area that specializes in holistic medicine (a good place to start looking for one might be your chiropractor or massage therapist, they probably know of local professionals) ... they can evaluate your situation on a personal level and help you find what might work for you... don't try to handle this on your own... bi polar is a serious condition that should be handled by a professional.

good luck
