When we brought our rescued coonhound home, he was underweight and being treated for worms. We gave him an egg with his meal a couple times a week and it really helped him to get his health back and get back to his normal weight. His coat improved a lot as well and now several people have asked me how I get his coat to be so shiney. He doens't get eggs that much any more (it's a treat for my dogs, they do love them, but they don't get them that often), but he does eat high-quality dog food. You are what you eat!

We do use raw eggs--but I would eat them myself as well. We get our eggs from small organic farmers, and I feel they're safer than factory farmed eggs being laid by sick hens in unsanitary conditions.

It will help out his coat. Just mix a raw egg with his normal dog food every 3-4 weeks, no more. As far as raw eggs go, my vet said they won't hurt the dog at all, especially for a little and they need one.

Yes most dogs like raw eggs and contrary to popular belief dogs can eat things that would make humans sick. Think about it. Wild dogs, wolves and coyotes eat dead and rotting carcasses with no problems and you can bet that it's loaded with bacteria. Raw egg is very good for a dog's coat and skin especially if it's dry and rough. A dog I had when I was a child had been abused and starved when we got her. My parents took her to the vet and he was the one who told us about the benefits of raw eggs. We raised chickens at that time so we had an abundance of eggs. We gave her 1 egg everyday and within a couple of weeks her coat was smooth, slick and shiny.

Yep. You can give them raw egg for their coats. However, since raw egg *can* carry harmful bacteria, I prefer to poach or boil the eggs before I give them to my dogs, I then crumble them up and mix them with their food, or give them as a treat. I don't know if your dog will like them, but mine do! I do this once a week or less, and even at that rate it really does help the overall appearance of the coat. Some people give them more often, and some less often. That will be up to you.

My dogs' other favorite treats are carrots... No salt, fat, or grease, and they help to clean their teeth!

(Just remember to introduce *any* new food item with caution, and watch for allergic reactions.)

Yes, raw or scrambled (preferably scrambled) But you only want to give him scrambled at least once a week no more than that and raw at least once ever two weeks or once a month, it smooths out their coat & makes it shiney

Here's something from a online vet forum

You can give a raw ORGANIC egg OCCASIONALLY. But continual use of raw eggs will cause the coat to become worse because it leads to a biotin deficiency. Raw egg whites contain avidin, an enzyme which ties up biotin (makes it unavailable for absorption into the body). Symptoms of biotin deficiency include dermatitis (inflammation of the skin), loss of hair, and poor growth.

Stick to your scrambled servings.

I give my dog 1 scrambled egg on Saturday mornings. Yes, they do love them, and yes it does give them extra protein, and will make their coat shiny, but I don't give anything to my dog raw, that I wouldn't eat raw. Anything that could make me sick if not cooked properly, can do the same to the dog. So, on Saturday mornings, Sampson get's his little mini omlet. He's a large dog ( 80 lbs) so one egg a week won't hurt him. If you have a small dog, I would certainly call and ask the vet his opinion before giving him any.

Raw eggs are great for dogs in moderation. Humans eat raw eggs too (chocolate mousse anyone?). Dogs can also eat raw meat pretty safely--the acid in their stomachs kills off bacteria better than ours does, which prevents them from getting sick. If you are squeamish about it, cook the eggs. Introducing new food to a dog's diet can upset his stomach, so do so slowly.

What becky d said is not true and ignorant. If you give dogs raw eggs it wont make them sick, their bodies are nothing like humans. They do not get food borne illnesses because they used to live in the wild, they are breed from wolves, and wolves used to eat chicken eggs, not to mention feed off dead animals.
