Thanks Blue rose. I checked it out immediately. Nice place but all filled up. so I found a nice cozy hotel in Eaton NH. Thanks anyway John Stolworthy. You gave me alot of good tips. Can't wait to see the folliage...hope it won't be burned out after the hot summer. I'm not allowed to email yet. Don't have enough points. Best regards from Germany

Thats the start of foliage season. Try the Eastman Inn or the Isaac E. Merrill House Inn in North Conway,NH or the Inn at Ellis River in Jackson, NH, all of which are highly rated and close to outlet shopping and scenic drives. Book early, they tend to fill up fast that time of year, especially the Inn at Ellis River, which is probably the most romantic place I've ever stayed in the area.

Another option, if you've never stayed there, is the Mount Washington Grand Resort (formerly known as The Hotel New Hampshire - from the movie). It's beautiful.

I live in the Lakes Region, near Laconia. Feel free to email me if you have a set price range or area and I'll give you some more ideas.

One thing you need to try and do that time of year is the Mt Washington Auto Road. On a clear day, you can see 4 states (NH, MA, ME, VT) and 2 countries (US and Canada) from the top. It closes October 22.

Another one to consider is The Darby Field Inn near North Conway. Never been, but I've heard it's nice.

Edit: Eaton is a nice, rural area near North Conway on the Maine border. Crystal Lake is nice (it is crystal clear) and we did have a LOT of rain early in the season so foliage should be at least decent. Enjoy your trip. I added my email in the links if you have any questions
