I'm really keen on this guy, a work colleague from another department. We often e-mail each other but I'm running out of ideas about what to say and I don't want to sound like I'm desperate. Any ideas?

Ask him out. Asking him out doesn't mean you're desperate. It means you're interested.

You can always shoot em some jokes, or some cool stories you have read on-line, etc...

Of course you may want to change to e-conversation into a real life conversation, so when you see him at some point, take a risk and ask if he wants to join you for a cup of cofee or somthing low key like that.

"Hello" has always worked for me. Ask for a special binder clip or something odd that he might have and you definitely don't have. You don't want him to hand you something that you have a pile of on your desk. That might work. Lame. But it might work.

If you've been emailing for awhile already, ask him out! You've already done the small talk, you won't sound foward.

ask him out to something fun with a couple of your friends. it won't be that bad and if he's comfortable he will make the next move.
