Running will increase the rate at which you burn calories, so that will benefit your entire body weight-wise. The act of running will tone and lengthen your leg muscles, and also but less so for hips and buttocks.
Genetics is responsible for where we lose or gain weight, some add it to hips, others belly first--same with losing. I can lose ten pounds and only my face shows it--life is so unfair :-)

You can't spot lose...only spot tone...running burns calories so that you will lose weight all over, however since the activity mostly involves the legs, the leg muscles do also get toned in the process.

You gain and lose weight the same way. Everywhere. It just more apparent in some places then others. So you will lose weight ALL over, but you will build more muscle in your legs then other places so it will appear you are losing more in your legs, at first. Make sense?
Enjoy your run!!!!!!!

Just about, yeah. Cycling is a better option for focusing on legs muscles for excercise but running along with swimming is a good full-body sport.

You cant just burn calories from one part of the body. So you would be losing weight from everywhere but, strengthing and toning the muscles in your legs.

It burns calories ALL OVER. It also helps strengthen your cardiovascular system. But it mostly firms the underlying muscles in your legs and butt. So it might LOOK as if you're spot-reducing. But you're not, really: Fat comes off all over your body, pretty-much evenly.

You can't target areas of your body for weight loss. You can target specific muscles to build, but when you lose weight it comes off sort of all over, regardless of what exercises you are doing to lose it.
