I tried to do this by joining AmeriCorps. As I end my year of service I realize that the ONLY way you are going to "be the change you wish to see in the world" is holding on to hope...and never letting it go. You will see so many things that make you just want to be apathetic or give up (like 99% of Americans) but if you have HOPE then you know what you are doing is somehow, somewhere making a difference.

I've done fund raising for AIDS Awareness Day, put a team together and raised more than $1,000 for Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society, I recycle everything that's recyclable, I buy energy saving appliances, and I volunteer whenever possible. In the future I hope to volunteer with Doctors Without Borders, the UN, and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

I'm not doing anything becuase I feel that this world is as good as it'll ever be. If everything was perfect, then how frickin' boring would that be? There are some things I'd like to change, like double stereotypes and other forms of predjudice and racism, therefore I don't demean myself to those. I don't use racial slurrs or call people names because they're thick or thin, redhead or blonde. I don't call my mean boss a b*tch because she's doing the same job a man could do, but better.

I am an advocate for children. I teach the future of the world. It has to start there; by teaching respect and tolerance. I meet with the parents to discuss their children, so I am in touch with those that are raising these children. Teachers cannot do it alone. They need parent support. What happens in school/at home needs to be followed through. Hopefully you make a difference. Unfortunately you cannot follow all your students throughout there lives, but you pray you did your best in their formative years and that it will carry into their adult lives.

Currently going to grad school for social work so that in a year I can bring the Eden Alternative to all Long Term Care Facilities so that we can deviate from the "institutional" model and move more towards a family and home model. I believe that we as a society do not value our elderly and thus I hope to make small changes towards that in the future.

Volunteering at a Blood center (only 5 % of the population gives blood!!!). I work at place that helps kids in crisis overcome crisis. It is rewarding and hard work -- but when I can see the difference I make in the kids then I feel like I accomplished something

Volunteering for special needs children, raising my kids the way I was raised, teaching them the importance of helping others... Loving my neighbors as I love myself, and being HAPPY, hoping it will be contagious! :)
