Like you said, they are sacred, so we can't really talk about what the symbols represent, but here is what we can share.
The word "garment" has a distinctive meaning to Latter-day Saints. Members who have received the ordinance of the temple endowment wear a white ceremonial undergarment. Members wear the garment under their regular clothing for the rest of their lives, day and night, to remind them of the sacred covenants they have made with God. It is an outward expression of an inward covenant and symbolizes Christlike attributes in one's mission in life. The white garment symbolizes purity and helps assure modesty and respect for the attributes of God. Scripture and ancient tradition point toward the significance of sacral clothing. The clergy and ministry in almost all major faiths wear special clothing. For Latter-day Saints, among whom there is no professional ministry, men and women from all walks of life share in the callings, responsibilities, and blessings of the priesthood. Their sacred clothing, representing covenants with God, is worn under rather than outside their street clothes.

"The men were stripped, washed, anointed, and then, as in the Masonic ceremony, dressed in a special "garment" which was held together with strings or bone buttons, metal being forbidden. According to John C. Bennett, this garment at first was a kind of shirt, which was worn only during the ceremony and then hidden away as a kind of security against Destroying Angels. But it was shortly changed into an unlovely and utilitarian long suit of underwear, which the novice was instructed to wear always as a protection against evil.
The Masonic square and compass were cut into the garment on the breast and a slash was made across the knee. In the beginning the cut across the knee was apparently deep enough to penetrate the flesh and leave a scar, but this practice was eventually abandoned as a result of protests from the Mormon women. There was also a slash in the garment across the abdomen, symbolic of the disemboweling that would be the fate of anyone who revealed the sacred secrets."

Tom expressed it well; what goes on in our temples are too sacred to discuss outside, and that includes the temple garments worthy Mormons wear.
Curiosity is no reason for revealing sacred things to the world, yet the temple is available to all worthy Mormons. In other words, if you want to know about our temples then join the LDS Church and begin your understanding of those things so misunderstood.
I can promise you that logic, reason, and the truth will be made evident.
The Lord does not reveal everything to man unless it is to His will to do so.

Yes we were undergarments and yes they have symbols on them. The garment and the symbols remind the wearers of the promises they've made to God to take his name upon them and obey his commandments. It is a similar concept as to why many people wear crosses (or at least used to, now it seems to be just another fashion accessory). They are undergarments because they are to remind the wearer, not others.

Not sure. Mormons usually won't talk about what goes on in the Temple, because of its sacredness. You might have to do a websearch for a site run by a disgruntled ex-Mormon for an answer.

Well, that is something you'd have to learn about from the LDS church itself. The temple garments are very sacred to us and their meaning is held very dear. To learn about the faith, visit www.lds.org

After going for the period of the temple and making covenants with God (something which you will in basic terms many times do once you change 18), many Mormons (no longer all) opt to placed on clothing as a reminder of the covenants they made and a reminder of God and Christ. It additionally facilitates them you will desire to gown modestly, through fact the appropriate element of the garment covers the tummy and the backside section is going right down to in basic terms above the knees. they are many times merely white and easy. there is no longer something "magical" or "protective" approximately them, this is in basic terms for them to remind themselves of their faith, Christ, and their covenants.
