because they are lazy and arrogant and because there are too many of them in the US they don't care too. I personally don't respect or like anyone that doesn't like english. But yes I know what you mean, they are very annoying when they work. How did they get a job without speaking english?
I feel like reporting them to the I.N.S.
I can't stand the illegal immigrants where I live and I wish they would all be deported back.
Sooner or later texas will be known as another mexico. It's sad but true. Be thankful that you aren't working they jobs that they work. It doesn't take a lot if brains to work at mc donalds. By the way, the worst mc donalds employees are the hispanics that do not speak english.
I would agree, to get out of the US if you don't want to speak english.

1)Probably because everywhere you go, you see Mexicans or Hispanics these days, so they feel like they are fine without learning it, (but it's not just them, it's other cultures as well), because these days a lot of the U.S is dominated by Spanish speaking people.
2) Also, English isn't the official language-so they don't care to learn it, because it's not mandatory-although essential to get ahead.
3) And, a lot of the U.S now favors them in a situation. Everywhere you go there are signs of whether you want it in Spanish or English, so they think they don't have to worry, because the U.S covers their asss(so they think). I'm Hispanic and I know English is crucial here, and not knowing how to speak/read/write it,I know I'd be lost and not be able to get a head in life and reach my endeavor.

Because they don't have to learn the language.
There will always be someone there to accommodate those individuals, to act as interpreter. Sadly, it is usually their children who do this for them.
I'm all for people coming to the United States, legally, to make a better life for themselves and their family. However, if you're going to move here, LEARN THE LANGUAGE!
You like the American money, and the American freedoms, but you don't want to learn the language? Why not?
I think that we, as Americans, should have the right to refuse service (legal, professional, and other) to those who refuse to speak English. I also believe we should start boycotting places that accommodate to those who only speak Spanish (Bank of AMERICA, for example), and if more and more people did this, then the "big-wig" CEO's of the company will start to take notice, and stop accommodating everyone else.

Why learn a new language when the country you are in gives you the options to hit 1 for Spanish and when the country accomodates them by posting things bilingually on signs and so forth.
I would not expect Russia or Japan or any other non-english speaking country to do the same for me we should not do it for them
I am of German heritage and when my grandfather came in on the boat.. one of the 1st things he had to do was learn the English language to survive in this country.
Nobody expect that anymore due to to the "Politically Correct" type of country we live in.

Numerous Americans live overseas and never bother to learn the language of their new countries. Is it your opinion that you should only be allowed to live in a country if you speak the native language of that country? Think about all the jobs/services that foreign speakers provide in this country. If you are offended that people don't speak the appropriate degree of English to work in a fast food establishment, perhaps you go to those establishments. You aren't being fair or realistic. I doubt you want to work in fast food. Be patient, if getting your order messed up at mcdonalds is the worst thing that happens in your day, you are blessed. Be glad you don't work there.

They're lazy, and having ATMs and everything else in two languages hardly gives them the incentive to learn English.
You want to live here, do it legally, and learn English. I don't care if you speak Spanish at home, if you're more comfortable with it, but when you deal with a clerk or with customers--habla ingles por favor!

I agree. If you were to go to another country, you would have to learn their language to communicate. But for some reason here in America we've had it drilled in our heads to learn other languages for the people who are coming over here to live or study in order to communicate. How messed up is that????

Damn, you sound pissed. I don't know the answer to this question. My grandma has been here for over 30 years and she doesn't speak an ounce of english. I've never understood why she never made the effort to learn.
And then she gets mad at me because my spanish isn't perfect... HELLO! this is america and all. Whatever, she's still my grandma.

It's their right being in this country. English isn't considered the country's language. People come here because we are free to do a lot of things. Do you not visit other countries because you don't speak their language?
