argh! Don't use a brush. Use a metal comb. Hold the comb vertically and PICK at the matt by using your other hand to hold the matt close to the body to reduce the pull on the dogs skin.

A daily COMBING (down to the skin thru all the layers of hair) will prevent more matts.

Also, check the arm pits and between the pads of the feet for matts. These especially need to be removed. Get a good pair of round tipped small scissors for this.

Have you tried a comb? The brush may not be getting through the layers of hair. You can try aq pin brush too, instead of a bristle brush.

Use a brush with soft bristles, because keep in mind that yorkies don't shed like other dogs. They have hair like humans. My parents have a yorkie. We sometimes use a tiny bit of conditioner when we bathe him.

a steel comb type brush. You will also need to learn to strip the dogs coat to make it grow like a terriers coat should otherwise you will not get the coat type your dog is suppose to have

Hello: a regular pet brush will do just fine soft brissles on one side
and stiff brissles on the other side . You can purchase them about anywhere ..Wal*Mart , Dollar Store , any pet store,
feed store etc. etc. for only couple of dollars .
Good Luck

It doesn't matter what brush you have just be very light when you brush, because pushing down hard to irritate it's skin.

This brush works miracles! You should be able to get all the shedding hair out of his coat and that should help keep it smooth.
