My mother in law gets her persian a really short cut every summer...He just seems so much happier, even though he's never outside and like your cat has constant access to AC and water...plus it's so entertaining, he goes from this gigantic poof ball to a really skinny big headed tiny little thing...Super Cute!!!

My cat has super long thick fur and I shave her about 4 times a year. She hates the process but loves the result. She's 10 and shaving her makes her feel like a youngster again.

I'd do it. I mean, it couldn't hurt the cat and would make her more comfortable. I know how hot the summers in the south are (I'm from Oklahoma, although I just moved to New York). Don't shave it to where she looks bald though.

you should never shave a cat or a dog.the fur acts as an insulation from the heat and the cold and protects their skin from all kind of bumps, bruises and scrapes.
