Both can be uncomfortable at times. Spacers are like small rubber bands that are stretched to fit in between your teeth to (obviously) create space. Because they are actually moving your teeth, it is very normal for them to be tender and uncomfortable, especially immediately afterwards (and some days after that).
Braces, again, can be uncomfortable. Usually when the orthodontist first places the brackets on he will only put on a wire that is very weak and does very little to actually move your teeth. This is done so that you have time to get used to the feeling of having all that metal in your mouth before he gets to the heavier duty stuff.
Oftentimes when a new wire is put on is when you will experience the most discomfort. Usually, periocially througout the entire process your teeth will be a little tender from being moved the way that they are. (Braces actually move your teeth around in your jaw - so they can be tender from being a little loose, which will heal once the teeth reach their final position.)
Your dentist will give you wax to put on the brackets if any of them stick into the inside of your cheek to help keep you comfortable. If you ever have a wire come out, or a bracket fall off you should contact your orthodontist ASAP so they can fix it for you. A displaced wire can jab into your cheek and gums, and be very painful. If a bracket falls off and it's not replaced as soon as possible it can cause the tooth to fall back out of alignment and the treatment could take a little longer because of it.
Hope this helps!

No the process itself does not hurt it like a crazy glue or something that they put on your teeth and then they put the wires in the hoops, then at the end of the wires (which are in the back of the mouth) they tighten the wires which would actually push your teeth together which will feel sore (very sore) take excedrin (not that bullshit tylenol) as soon as you come out from the dentist.
And your diet for next day or so will consist of : mashed potatoes , macaroni & cheese, soups, etc. Anything that you dont need to chew that hard. Dont go and eat fried chicken or something crazy like that. You'll know when the soreness is easing up.

It only hurts at first, since your teeth will start to shift soon after they are put in. If its too painful, take a Tylenol or whatever your orthodontist reccomends. After you have the braces on it will only be uncomfortable when they adjust them and when you first have them all in since your mouth will have to get used to the new parts in it.

It doesn't hurt but you will have some dull discomfort for a day or so after going to the dentist each time. Orajel (put directly on teeth or gums) or some sort of pain reliever will help you.

Sore, not painful. It is somewhat uncomfortable at first, but you will get accustomed to it soon enough.
