I don't believe you have to wait, but many do. What is your reason for doing so?

Since so many are giving their reasons for why they believe one way or the other, I thought I probably should have put mine as well >> I don't believe people should be rampantly promiscuous, but I believe that if two people are truly in love, mature, and respecting of each other, then there is nothing wrong. For instance, my bf and I plan on marrying as soon as I'm done with college... so what is the point in waiting one more year if we are already committed enough to marry. On top of that, my religion considers sex pleasurable, sacred, and something to be enjoyed and marriage is not a requirement for those things to happen. Anyway... that's all just my opinion... I am curious to see how others feel about the matter.

I am married but I did wait to have sex until marriage. I waited because I felt that it wasn't right to have sex prior to marriage. I wasn't a Christian until I went to high school and I've always felt that Sex is something that should be shared between a man and his wife. After I became a Christian I added the religious aspect to why I was waiting. It was only an addition to my actual reason. Now that I am studying medicine I found out that when people have sex, they do integrate some of the DNA of the other person. It might not be a lot but it's enough for me to encourage people to wait. In essence people are becoming more like one flesh when they have sex. Now that I am married, it was a gift that I gave to my wife and a gift that she was able to give me as well. I wouldn't have traded it for anything and I'm happy that I never settled.

Many people wait for relgious reasons, many wait because they feel their partner will judge them or not want them if they are not "pure." I feel that there is nothing wrong with having sex as long as you are careful and protect yourself. In all honesty, I rather know that the sexual chemistry is good with someone before I pledge to be with them forever and be with that one and only person. Bad sexual chemistry is the downfall of many relationships. While it shouldnt be the basis on a relationship, it can build a strong bond or drive a huge wedge in between it.

I don't want to have sex before marriage not only because I am a Christian, but also that it is stupid and foolish to go to bed with a lot of people. People who do that can get aids, and other very deadly diseases. I don't want that! And I am a Christian, so God warned us not to do so.

Not only religious, it is a matter of self respect, you know we are not only objects of sex, one person is free because he (and not his body) can control his destiny.
If that does not convince you think it as a matter of health.
