My ten month old son was standing next to my computer desk and lost his balance and hit his head very early this am. He fell to the floor and just giggled, and when he sat up he vomited. I felt his head and there is a good bit of swelling above his ear. I have been waking him up every half hour to check on him like the dr. said and he has an appointment later this afternoon. I am used to head injuries (this is my third child) but this one feels different. It is soft and mushy feeling and the "lump" has a bluish tint.
He is happy and bouncy when awake, but is sleeping quite a bit
I just wondered why the injured area would be soft like that. as well as why he would just giggle .. he has not cried about it at all

I took little Jamie to his appointment and he got his x-ray there does not seem to be a fracture but they are going to have a tech. look at it under a hot light just to make sure.
Now I just have to watch for more vomiting or further swelling, but that doesn't seem likely at this point. Thank you for your concern
It took us THREE HOURS at the Dr. . they are notoriously slow

Doing as your Doctor suggested is a correct move and going to a doctor is more than the correct move. As for it feeling soft could mean that its just filled with fluids, therefore the damage my not be as great as you may believe. But only x-rays and seeing you doctor can make it a sure thing ok. I wish you and all of your family well.

I hope he's not one of those kids who can't feel pain. I hope he's OK.. Write us later and let us know what happened OK because there has to be an explanation.
