you are entitled by law to one free credit report per year from each of the 3 reporting bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. you have to click through the main site and set up accounts with each bureau to receive the free reports.
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp
after verifying your identity, each of the 3 bureaus will allow you to pay for your score at a discounted rate (~ $6 - 10). it is helpful to know all 3 scores, because they will undoubtedly be different. currently, standard credit scores range from 300 - 850 (higher being the better, average US score is ~ 678).
this year, the bureaus are beginning to offer a new scoring system, known as the "Vantage Score". this scale will run from 501 - 990, similar to a grading scale in education (900s = A, 800s = B, and so on). right now, i have only been able to purchase my Vantage score from Experian.
hope that helps ...

experian credit agency allow a 30 day free trial online.
You can check all your previous credit history with this and then after you have checked you just cancel the subscription.
Also if you find something that is not correct on there you can write to them and they will investigate and possibly remove it from your file. This is also free.
Good luck x x
