We are remodeling the kitchen and would like to give our dishwasher to charity. Salvation Army would not take it.

It's a grassroots organization of people giving (and getting) stuff for free. You post the item you wish to give away and someone in your area may pick it up. You can even specify if you want to give it to a nonprofit. It's a great organization!

You don't say where you are in Illinois, but if you are in central Illinois, check with Inner City Mission in Springfield, (217)525-3940. They will take almost anything. If they can't use it themselves, they will give it to someone who needs it. If they can't do that, they will sell it for whatever they can get to help their funding.
