I went to a wedding once where the groom was in a motorized wheel chair. He wanted to still have the mother/son dance so when the time came, this mom sat on his lap and they had their dance. He moved the wheel chair around while the song was playing. It was really sweet and no one thought it was silly.
Good luck! :-)

You can definitely dance! You just need to be creative...perhaps you could twirl him around in his wheelchair, or something like that. I certainly don't think you should not have the father/daughter dance just because your dad's in a wheelchair. With creativity (and possibly some practice), it'll be both memorable and fun!

There are some instructors out there that can create a dance for the both of you being he is in a wheelchair. Maybe you could even sit in his lap while you spin and he can just hold you. I think if you didn't make the extra effort to figure something out he'd be really sad. I hope it works out for you.

I saw this really sweet ritual on a TV show one time where they had a glass bowl filled with water, and three smaller bowls with one fish in each one, and at one point during the ceremony the child, the groom, and the bride, all took a fish and poured it into the bigger bowl so that they were all together. The officiant then said something about it symbolizing all three of them coming together and becoming one family unit. It was really cute and something the child really enjoyed and understood. I think something like that would be much more appropriate. Your five year old saying 'i do' to vows is not appropriate at all, for reasons that everyone here has done a great job explaining.

Have you ever seen an old movie where the dancers did the Minuette ? It's a dance where the partners walk side by side holding hands, at various downbeats, they turn and face each other, holding the free hand up and to the side. Perhaps your fiancee could push the wheelchair for him, as you do this. With a little practice, and the proper music this could be doable.

You can do a slideshow presentation of pics of you and your dad throughout the years and choose a song to play it with.
OR, you can sit with your dad on the dance floor holding hands while your song is being played and ask everyone to dance in both of your honors.
OR, you can take that time to play a song, and talk about all the great things you and your dad have done over the years..

You can certainly have the father daughter dance. You can either sit in his lap while he controls the wheel chair or do something fun like rent a wheel chair for yourself and spin around the dance floor together.

Look up dance insturtors in the phone book call them exsplane the situation to them more then likely they will help you come up with some thing, as some one else suggested do a power point persentation with a song that is meaningful to you and your dad and just sit with him during that so he knows how special he is to you

I have seen this at a wedding. Just dance, practice a little first. It isn't about how well you dance, it's about the spirit of the 2 of you and the poignancy of the day. It will be very special and no one is judging how it looks.

Make a choreagraphy! He can dance from his waist up and you can do something fun and memorable together.
Good luck
If you don't want to dance, you can sing together or read a poem together.
