I'm waay poor (<$20,000 / year) and have always had to choose between rent and child support. I've never been current but I do pay, just not as much as the state of Ohio wants. There has always been and always will be a warrant out for my arrest. Last time I went to court in Ohio to try and have it reduced they arrested me in the courtroom before it was my turn. They gave me 30 days but before I was released there was another warrant out for the missed apyments when I was in jail. Now I hear it's a felony in Ohio to be behind more than $1000 in Child support. And I am.
Now my Mother has died and I want to travel back to Ohio to attend the funreal. Will I get arrested when I arrive in Ohio?
Do they do the same TSA crap on the Trains too?
Please, if you don't know, don't quess. I really don't want to go to the joint and miss more payments, my kids need what little money ($150 a week - they want $350 a week, I only make $300-$325 a week) I'm paying them now.

There are Websites that can help with this problem. They will give free legal representation in court if need be. My Ex-wife said that I owed her $16,000 in arrears but she had signed the checks for over $20,000. She had free representation from some scum bag who thought she was getting screwed. Boy! did he have a rude awaking. We went to court and I still had to her fat a$$ 2,000 grand. I know these groups are out there. They can help. You had better do it quick though, You probally have a felony warrant out for you.

OK, here is what I know from my job at Family Court in Delaware, and what I learned on-line from Ohio.
First, in Delaware, we only issue a warrant if the non-custodial parent does not appear for a hearing. When that is the case, a capias (civil warrant) is issued and if the person is picked up, he/she is brought before the Court and bonded. Depending on the circumstances, he/she is either incarcerated or released on bail pending a further hearing.
However, in researching Ohio, I found this:
"Contempt of court proceedings can also be initiated when support payments are not paid as ordered. The non-custodial parent will be summoned to court to show why he or she should not be held in contempt for not paying child support as ordered. Depending on whether it is a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd offense the non-custodial parent could be sentenced to jail for 30,60 or 90 days.
If a non-custodial parent does not pay child support for a total accumulated period of twenty-six weeks out of one hundred four consecutive weeks, whether or not the twenty-six weeks were consecutive, the non-custodial parent could be guilty of nonsupport of dependents (fourth degree felony) and be subject to eighteen months in jail and a $5,000 fine. "
The first paragraph is the same as Delaware and if you did not show for such a hearing, the capias I mentioned earlier would be issued. It is the second paragraph I think you have heard about. I hope this clarifies it. It is not just "being behind more than $1000". Also, I can't speak about how strict they are in your area about enforcing these warrants -- around here it is often a case of only if you are picked up for another matter -- speeding or whatever, that they find the "failure to appear" warrant and bring you in on that as well.
Hope this information has been of some use to you. Good luck and my sympathies on your loss.

It's entriely possible but there's no clear yes or no.
Take Bored's advice and seek legal help. There are ways to get payments reduced to a livable amount.
Open warrants are just that and there are many ways to "get caught". Runniong and hiding isn't the answer, because...well, no disrespect meant, but look at the situation you are in now. It's bad enough and trying to get into the area under the radar will only make it worse.
Seek some really good legal advice, there are a lot of great legal aid groups out there for fathers and they can provide you with better info on all your questions.
Good luck and I am sorry about your Mom.

You can be arrested anywhere in the US on a warrant from Ohio,
Yes if you fly it is very possible you will be arrested when you get to Ohio.
I sounds like you need to go back to court and try and get payments lowered based on wages

you need to pass forward and get placed on new child help with the aid of fact heres the situation in an prolonged time down the line whilst she comes to a decision she needs extra or in spite of the case could be she would be in a position to seek for new child help and the choose will ask why have not you paid and he will make you pay back new child help for all those years. does not matter if your giving her money promptly this is a foul determination. enable the state manage this matter so it does not come again to chew you interior the *** later.
