You have to examine all possibilities.. sure the lazy ones will get a job. But there are people who sometimes fall on their face and well, sometimes welfare saving the day gives them that base to help them back up.
People often say lets remove it because of the bad ones that abuse the system. But if we punished the good ones because of the bad ones would that be right?

Not all people who receive welfare are "lazy".After working 20+ years as a nurse,a lifetime disability forced me to quit my job,on my doctors advice.Since the typical time it takes after applying for disability benefits, till they finally approve you, can be up to 2 years,I had no choice but to go on welfare to pay the rent and feed my child.I don't know what I would have done for those 2 years if there hadn't been some type of assistance available.I was embarrased at first to know that the mailman knew I was getting a welfare check and the people behind me in line at the store knew I was using food stamps, but then I remembered all the taxes I paid in those 20+ years of working. The amount of assistance I received didn't cover even the cost of the rent,my church helped with the remainder, but if that help wouldn't have been there I would have been homeless. And by the way, when my disability benefits were finally approved,I had to pay the welfare system back every penny they gave me in cash assistance.

I really think you should take another step back and mayby put some thought into you question.Their are people all over the us that depend on welfare to feed there family's,and it isn't because there to lazy to find work some time it's as simple as there just isn't any work at the time, and wow if you know some people who actually live on welfare alone then they must be smarter then they look, because welfare isn't enough to live off of any were with the way the prices keep raising, and i also don't know why you bring immigration into this question i am as white as they come and personally i don't care you immigrate here people move here because they can't make it in there countries its a harder life style then were used to so why should they not be aloud over here should they struggle to make it just because of what side of the world they were born into, i mean come on how selfish can a person actually get???

You don't know what you are talking about so if you don't why do you open your mouth!
You know how STUPID that question really is??
And for your own information, there is no WELFARE!! There is Tanif, but it is short term! And most on that are children, the elderly and the disabled. Gonna find them a job??
Illegals can't get any help by law. You have to have an ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE and be a US citizen, or here legally!
The unemployed and poor are the buffer that makes your stupid economy run! Ever heard of "Supply and Demand"! There will never be full employment and 6 or 7% that are still drawing unemployment are the tip of the iceberg!
Go live under a bridge and tell me how you like it!

Not all people that get welfare can be classified as "lazy"
Some are there only for a short time before becoming self supporting. A lot of children would suffer if their parents were denied welfare. If you are able bodied yes you should work, but you can not generalize them. The family's that are 2nd and 3rd generation welfare recipients should be kicked off totally, that's fraud and a way of life not real need. No one here illegally should get welfare . Period.
But no I don't think all welfare should be eliminated, but the cheaters and the healthy should be denied.

Eliminating welfare would further burden social services and likely result in an increase of other taxes at the state or municipal level to offer assistance to those in need. You appear to be ignorant about the role of welfare in society, and assume that everyone that is on welfare is lazy which is not true. Sweeping changes in law introduced under the Clinton Administration have brought new work stipulations to welfare recipients as well as a lifetime assistance limit of 5 years. Before you make further ignorant statements as the one in your question, you might want to learn more about what you are talking about unless you intend to appear so ignorant and disconnected from social policies.

In my day they didn't have welfare. We had to take any job that we could find or do without. We lived in a two room apartment and lived on the bare necessities. We had too much pride to beg or tell anyone. We survived and worked at many hard jobs with out complaining. Today we are retired and and can afford to live how we want. We still live very moderately and have a nice family and 50 yrs of marriage. We live in a great country and I get tired of everyone wanting the government to take care of them. If they spent as much time looking for work as they do protesting and expecting freebies this would be a different world.

I don't think that everyone on welfare are lazy, they sometimes are a victim of circumstances. I do think it should be regulated, but some people get in a spot that they can't get out of. I think that welfare can keep people in poverty too often. It is a sad situation and why would anyone want to be like that?

Not a bad idea! Since something like 1/3 of the federal budget goes to entitlement payments, wow, that'd really be a big shot in the arm for american business! Of course, then you'd have a lot of people who have been reliant on govt freebies having a readjustment problem, but it wouldn't be impossible. It'd squelch the immigration problem, it'd take us to 99% employment! LOL
