He may have a skin infection, or allergy. Try switching to a better quality food, as this is often the culprit. Also, think about what products you might be using on your lawn, carpets, etc, anywhere that he walks. There might be something there that is bothering his skin. Look at his paws very carefully, to make sure there isn't some kind of injury there. And I'm sure that in some cases, stress could be causing this.

He may do it because of anxiety, or a habit from when it itched once or some other reason. Your vet may be able to figure that one out. As far as getting him to stop there are a few sprays out there you can put on his paws like hot spot, dermcare, a liquid bandage spray, bitter apple, or bitter end.

usually this happens bc the dog originally had something there which annoyed him, an itch or maybe flees. If the original irritant is gone they sometimes continue bc it is now habit. One way to stop this is go to your local pet store and buy bitter apple..spray this on the area that they are chewing, or sucking on and they should stop (follow the directions on the bottle)

My dog does that too, but it is beacuse in the summer time, his paws get really itchy from the pollen and he starts chewing on them. The next time you got to the vet you should ask them and see what the best solution is.

My dog is having the same problem. He is also itching elsewhere. Is your dog too? I am going to have mine checked for Scabies. My children and I have contracted them and after researching on the Net, found out that we can get them from pets. Scabies like to hang out on the webs of your fingers and toes(as well as other spots). Maybe they like to hang out between dog's toes too. Good luck figuring it out! I hope this gives you another thing to help you find his problem.
