This could be caused by parasites like heartworm. It may be that he is busy gaurding your home when you are not aroung/asleep and figures that it is safe to sleep when you are around (my own dog does this)

If you live in a state where it is hot, your dog can fall asleep a lot. It is just a way for them to relax. My dog is an outside dog and she is always asleep too. She's only 1 year old.

He's either old, sick or a Basset Hound or your house is really boring. Get him checked out at the vet. He could have Lyme disease or a another problem.

well, do you give your dog a lot of attention. try walking it every afternoon, just give it more attention. if that doesnt work, you may need to check him out with a vet
