Is it expected for a man to pay on the first date or do couples go dutch nowadays?

I personally prefer to pay, but some women get upset and think that you are buying them....whats the general opinion?

There are better ways to show your appreciation for being taken out that have nothing to do with monetary means.

Almost all women want men to pay. I think that's OK if the guy's got far more money than her, but otherwise she should pay at least sometimes. The "new" rule some people are adopting is "whoever makes the date pays for it." I guess that's reasonable enough. Guys would still pay most of the time under that rule because they make more dates than women. A woman who NEVER wants to pay and makes about as much as me would strike me as stingy, though.

if it's a first date, pay....I would love for a man to pay for me all the time. Granted I work and could afford it, it's just a very sweet and polite thing to do.

well ive got money so why not let me spend it? i think that the girl should be grateful that we r using OUR money...i dont think it should be thought of as "if the guy buys dinner he will want something in return" i dont see it that way anyhow...
