A premade one is okay, but you should still jot down a little note making it personal.

Yes, it's tacky. A pre-printed verse is acceptable AS LONG AS you have included a personal, hand-written note with it. Just signing your name is not enough....

If someone took the time to select a gift for you, you should take the time to acknowledge the gift. Start by thanking them for the (whatever the gift is) and tell them how nice it was for them to think of you/remember your birthday/whatever. Tell them how you plan to use the gify. In the instance that the gift you received is money, you should thank the giver for the gift and tell them what you plan to spend the money on (or save it for). Then thank them again. If you would like, you may also add in something about their presence at your wedding/birthday party/family holiday dinner/whatever...

Also, promptness is key. When I was a kid, I wasn't allowed to spend my birthday money, etc., until I'd sent the proper thank-you's out. You don't want to procrastinate. The longer you wait, the longer the gift giver will wonder whether or not you even GOT the gift! I had over 500 people at my wedding. I was gone for just over a week on my honemyoon, and I still hand-wrote every single thank-you note. They were all mailed within 30 days of my wedding!

The fact that you know that you should send a card is great. You can send a premade card but write a short message about how you plan to use the item that you received.

If you are referring to store-bought thank you cards, it is o.k. to use those. Include a personal message or note about the thoughtfulness of the person - about a gift, a kindness, etc.

It only takes a few minutes to write a note. The person or persons to whom you are sending the card(s) will appreciate it. They did spend some time looking and purchasing a gift, or preparing a nice meal, or doing you a favor.

No it is not tacky. What is tacky, though is to not send a thank you note when one is in order. If I use a pre-made card, I always write a short note inside to personalize it.

What's TACKY is applying for a better and more productive position within your current company (generates up to a billion a year in revenue)...... and they(the recruiter) send you a response with poor grammar stating that they have found a "BETTER CANDIDATE" and the letter was not even signed by the person who produced the letter.

In my opinion, I would be somewhat offended if I received a pre-printed thank you card. It is unpersonal, and if I took my time to personally select a gift for you, the least you could do is thank me personally!

Even if time is at a premium, at least write a quick handwritten thank you!

That is perfectly fine - hopefully you got ones that have room to write a small note of thanks for the item or persons thoughtfulness.

In this day and age you will be considered very upper crust by sending one at all. You are obviously classy!

Of course, there's nothing wrong with bought cards, but you should be including a line or two from you personally.

I agree. Pre-made is ok, but still add a little note to each one that makes it personal.
