yeah I had been dating a guy for a few weeks when religion came up and, discovering I was an atheist, he told me that I better convert or I'd go to hell. "I am?" I asked. "Wouldnt that mean I'm evil? Why do you even like me, then?"
"Because I know I can redeem your soul" he said.
I waited til the next time we were having sex, and right in the middle of it, I rolled off of him and said that we were over. "You can't dump me now! We're having sex!" he said.
"Sorry," i said, "I just converted. I can no longer tolerate your desire for premarital sex."

I think your Mom is just trying to look out for your best interest. If she said it, she probably sees things in your life right now that are scaring her and making her respond with such a strong response.
If you're wondering why she said it, just think about anything that you might have done recently or anything that you're involved in that she doesn't like. And then think about why she might not like it.
If parents are concerned enough to threaten you with Hell then they probably know a thing or two that you don't know and know that some of your actions or activities are endangering you. She's just trying to convey that. Telling you you're going to Hell probably isn't the best way to do so; but that's most likely what she's trying to tell you - that your actions / activities are scaring her.
And remember - the occult is real - the spiritual realm is not to be toyed with.

there was a song way back when dirt was invented titled "you always hurt the ones you love---the ones you shouldn't hurt at all." It sounds like your mom has lived a very stressful and depressed life. And a very judgemental one also. I wonder if others looked at her and created in her that spirit that finds a safe harbor inside her now. I pray that you will not allow her bitterness in that remark to cause you to become bitter toward others. We cannot know the judgement that awaits us in the afterlife. WE cannot know how horrible that pit must truly be. We speak in ignorance and a whole world can be crushed by words. The bible says that there is power of life and death in the tongue. I am so sorry your mom chose to speak death to you. Look up---your mom isn't in charge of who gets where.....and it should make you smile to think that things can't get much worse. And remember to say a prayer for her. My own mother disowned me when I became a Christian. I read something that night that changed my life forever----it is in Matthew----it says--"he who loves father and mother, sister and brother, more than me, is not worthy of me." I closed the book that night and never looked back at the loss of kinship that the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ brought me through.
God bless you and keep you---may He who neither slumbers nor sleeps make His face to shine upon you and give you peace. May love be poured out on you in good measure, overflowing. May peace that passes understanding find a place in your heart. And may you experience love without limits---the kind only Christ can give you.

That is very sad. I am so sorry you mother said this. I assume she claims to be a Christian? It is people like that that make the rest of us look bad. A TRUE Christian, one that follows the teachings of Christ, would not say such a thing. I will pray for your mother. Whatever beliefs you have are yours and you have them for a reason. No one should persecute you for that. If you are happy and content in your beliefs, then more power to you. Who am I, or your mother, in this instance to judge that?

it is true, but happily you can be saved from that fire... It only depends on you. It is so simple, but the problem is that we are making it too complicated. Just kneal, close your eyes and speak to God. He will hear you, and tell Him that you have many sins in your life...and ask for forgivness..Just beleive that Jesus can clean your sin through His blood shared on the Cross....He is the Son of God and He is able to do that. He is the Only ONE who can do that... And..
You will feal it right away.. a peace will conquer your heart, and you will be joyfull...You will have a reason 2 live... Just try it! and you will gain eternal life.
Who is born only once, will die twice, who is born twice, will die once...:)

My grandmother used to tell us that when we were children. I think in order to get us to do what she wanted. After I got older I snapped back and told her to stop judging us...that is wasn't going to look good for her either. I got my *** beat for that one and I was going to hell too!
I now have the sudden desire to crank up the stereo really loud and find that song I'M GOING STRAIGHT TO HELL! (just like my mama said) by Driving and Crying!

I had relatives (not my mom) tell me that, and it really hurt. Theologically speaking, she doesn't know any more than you do, and she's arrogating her God's judgment to herself. The fact is, it's an insult--she's saying you *deserve* to burn in hell for all eternity--and no mother should be insulting or threatening her child. Deal with the insult and judgmental attitude, NOT with theology. *hug*

That is a sick and twisted thing for a mother to say to her daughter.
How horrible.
My mother told me hell was whatever I thought it was in my own mind...
Sometimes our parents are wrong about God. Don't let your mother's perception of spirituality dissuade you from seeking the truth yourself.

What a sweet, loving mother. And I thought Christianity was a religion which emphasized love of your fellow man, acceptance, and forgiveness Oh, that's right--that was Jesus which emphasized it, not the church or its members.
