I'm looking for any tips, tricks, or info in general. I'm curious to hear other people's stories, experiences, and advise. I'm a huge pet person, I've always had pets and we used to breed Akita's. I live in a apartment right now and not in a home, which is very different from the 7 acres we had. Give me your best advise, any suggestions or tricks of the trade is better than none. Thank You!!

I have had miniature dachshunds for many years. We now have Inky. Inky is a three year old dapple.
In the past we have bred dachshunds as well. In the interim of weening puppies from their mother and having them go to their prospective adoptive families I have found that if you allow Charlie to sleep with you it will end his whining. He will not wet your bed and will snuggle next you and sleep through the night. We have had puppies as young as 5 weeks share our bed. I suggest you lay down a soft blanket next to you for Charlie to sleep on and use pillows to surround him safely, protecting him from falls. Also, puddle pads make potty training easier, especially living in an apartment. You can find them at Pet Smart, or Target. A must is lots of toys!!!!!!
Dachshunds require lots of attention, and do not like or do well when separated from their owners. You might ask? Will all this attention spoil Charlie? The answer is a positive yes,but in doing so, Charlie will be the best companion you could ever hope for. He will be loving, loyal, well trained, and gentle. You might want to consider a brother or sister for Charlie if you need to leave him for long periods of time. Charlie"s nature is tenacious and he will get into all types of problems left alone too long.
Good Luck,
Sheila

I took an old sweatshirt of mine, wore it a couple of times and then put it in my dachshund's bed as her "blanket". This helped stop her from whining to get up on the bed all night long. Good luck and have fun!

Try the old wind up clock wrapped in a towel trick. (please make sure there isn't an alarm set on it first). And check out these websites. Most breeds have e-mail lists or forums where you can ask breeders and breed lovers questions and get good advice.

I love letting my mini dachshund sleep with me because she is so warm and loves to cuddle.
