It's very dependent on the specific case. If it is a result of trauma it COULD get better, but it could also develop an infection. Infection is caused by trauma- either over time from repeatedly re-filling a tooth and having to make the filling closer and closer to the nerve each time- or it can be caused by the type of trauma you are talking about. When this happens the nerve begins to die and bacteria can get into the nerve and you develop an abcess. This is a very painful condition that occurs when pus from an infection tries to expand within the bone above the root of your tooth and it is unable to - creating very painful pressure and temperature sensitivity. (This is what is commonly known as a toothach)
If the nerve dies and you are lucky enough not to get an infection the tooth will become discolored and gray overtime.
However it may just be slightly loose from being knocked so hard! Sometimes, in these cases, if you baby the area and take care not to chew anywhere near it, the ligaments that attach your tooth to the gum and bone will heal and re-attach.
But, everyone here is also right. If you have fallen on your face and knocked a tooth loose you MUST go to a dentist! It is crucial that recieve any treatment you may need for this type of trauma as soon as possible to avoid further discomfort.

Oh, you need to see a dentist right away. You could have an infection growing behind your tooth. Teeth infections are almost always the cause of loose permanent teeth(the other is blunt trauma to the face). Please see a dentist immeadiatly.

a permanent tooth loosened by trauma, needs to be attended to by a dentist. permanent teeth are never supposed to be loose, and they can die very easily if not cared for properly.

Go to the dentist...they've some inert cement that can get the tooth to stop moving...If you leave it alone you'll lose it eventually. PEACE!
