I appreciate all the replies and for those that think I'm ditsy I'm not. In fact it is a popular urban legend where I'm from and I wanted to disprove it for a few folks. For those that gave CONSTRUCTIVE answers I thank you, and for those who were plain rude and mean, I thank you but that wasn't necessary.

decaffeinated means the caffeine has been removed, which means there is less caffeine in decaff then there is in regular coffee.

The prefix "de" means to remove something. Such as desensitize means to reduce sensitivity to, delist means to remove from a list, deice means to remove ice. So in this case, decaffeinate means to remove the caffeine. Decaffeinated coffee or tea still contains some small amounts of caffeine, but it's nowhere near the amounts of the original - the FDA does not regulate the claim, so some 'decaffeinated' coffees still may have up to 8mg of caffeine per 8oz.

And the question also becomes - what is worse for you, the caffeine or the chemicals to remove it?
