I just received my bill. I made a big purchase just after the current bill cycle ended so I don't see that purchase on there. I would like to pay extra on this current bill so I'll be credited next month and I won't have to worry about the bill 30 days from now. Can I do that?

You sure can! And you have a level head on your shoulders. Smart thinking. You are smarter than about 95% of the people in the world who keep racking up debts. You should do well in your life.

Good luck.

If you pay the full balance, your fine. If not, you will still receive a bill next month. Some credit card companies will waive the minimum payment if the previous months payment was more than double the minimum. DO NOT count on them doing so. If your bill shows a minimum payment that is not $0.00, you must make another payment. Plan one making a payment at the normal time.

You can do that but if you still have an outstanding balance you will still owe your monthly minimum.
Normal payment $100, you pay $400 but there will still be a $800 balance (or any amount) on the card, next billing cycle you will still have to pay $100.

I did that a couple of times and I still had to pay. If I didn't pay it I ended up with a late charge

yes. you can do that. I've done it.

Don't let it confuse you though. Your credit card statement will show a negative number. I.e. you have recurring monthly charge on your credit card for like $75, and send $200. it will pay that first 75, your balance will be -125, next month your bill will show -50, the next month you will owe 25. etc.

No! Any monies sent will be credited to any existing balance. If you have no existing balance the CC co. will post a "Credit" and will use the credit against any new balance. Not a real good thing to do. Just hold your money and pay it when you get your bill.

Yes. You will not have to worry about the next month's bill as long as you make sure you prepaid the entire amount for the next month.

you can always pay more on a credit card..but it will not exempt for getting a bill again the next month...It may lower the minimum amount due for the following month.

Overall, its always best to pay more than your minimum payment amount.

If you don't pay it all you will still have a bill next month.
