women in thailand are so poor that they have sex with tourists so they can send money home to feed their kids + families. the men justify this behaviour by saying they are doing thailand a favour. who is exploiting who here?

We are all exploited in some way. Most of us work all day fror scraps while someone upstairs gets rich. Why is it that westerners think it is so unacceptable if the form that the exploitation takes is remotely sexual, but don't seem to have a problem with any other type of exploitation? Those women live a pretty nice life compared to allot of other people in SE Asia and India. It is probably better to have an easy job with a remote (if protection is used) chance of getting HIV than it is to have a back breaking job dealing with toxic substances and having a 1 in 3 chance of getting cancer (as is the case for thousands of people in India) By the way, the toxic substances that are killing Indian workers come from western countries where safety regulations would make them impossibly costly to dispose of. I suppose it is ok to kill men in India as long as no one is having sex with them?

I think every case is individual - In most of the bars that the foreigners go to, the girls have a choice.. if they don't like a guy, they won't go near him.. they are free, they are looking for easier money than farming rice or working upcountry for little.. Many are looking for a decent husband as once they are over 25 and have a kid, it is not easy for them here.
And quite often, they play on the customers sympathies. There are a ton of stories of wily bargirls who get foreigners to send them monthly money or build them houses and then dump the guy.. makes you wonder who is exploiting who sometimes.. and well, how many Western women have walked from a marriage with a house too.. Is it unheard of that wherever you are from a woman marries for security or money? I have heard some women in USA say, well, at least these girls get paid for it.. Interesting subject w/many viewpoints.. and as many answers as there are people in the world..

The thai bar girls exploit guys lonliness and difficulty forming regular relationships which is why they are there in the first place.
If females helped them to pull and went for needy guys as well 'fixing them' they they would not need to go to Thailand.
so you could say the males exploit the females need for money and the females exploit the guys need for affection and female company.
But the bar girls (other thai prostitutes aimed and locals are often worse off) get paid alot compared to locals = to reasonably ranking public officails so not that poor considering local prices...
Plus they can very much exploit the guys going there who are nice and fall for bog standard stories of whoe (some may be true granted but many are not) like the my buffaloo back home is very sick etc... Exploiting caring nature as insead or the commonly though notion that the guys there are the seedy perverts would be rapists...
Most are far more likly to be the needy lonly mates that girls reject in favour of the bad boys who treat them bad and then they say all men are bastards...
Or all those guys who get fed up taking girls on dates, getting them drinks etc only to get dumped once the girl gets said date or drink realising the girls just using them as a walking ATM.
As do the thai bar girls... Knowing how easy it is to manipulate guys and getting them to hand over their cash using their magic sex powers.
In the gogo bars its commonly known the girls are free agents, no pimps and they can pick and choose the guys, as can the guys. They could always get a regular job... This one pays better.
So its not so much guys exploiting the oh so poor natives... You been in Bangkok? it has a better subway system and monorail system then us... food is plentiful... really plentiful. The shopping malls are spotless and high tech, the hospitals make ours look third world, the traffic sytem is better with re-routing maps etc...
And the street food is fantasic.
Its the whole system of human relationships is messed up.
Females like playing the victems but often they are not... they are using tools they have to manipulate, often more powerful then guys strenght.
Some are poor and expolited just like guys...
But don't most jobs exploit? ie you work for peanuts, long hours, don't get to see your friends or families doing boring stuff that is beneath your brains, in a bitchy, back stabby, office politics shitty environment, where your appearance is controlled and your spirit crushed?
At least the bar girls have control over their job and earn enough to retire early and get their dreams

Haaa... I live here for 12 years now. I talk to many bargirls everyday, even married to one. Most of the girl sell sex because they like it. Not many send money home to their family. They like what they do. They have fun, have friends, can choose among beautiful guys, get money, gold and even trips. If guys look good, then they do it for free. Dont feel sorry for the girls. They sure enjoy the time.
And only some girls and families from countryside is poor. Citygirls drive Benz, Bmw etc and have money enough.

If it's white slavery, then she's being exploited. But if she's doing it by choice and is reaping the rewards of her labor, then she's not being exploited.
If he's simply paying for her services, then he's not being exploited. If he's tricked into marrying her while she intends to leave him after she's able to extract a certain amount of money from him, then he's being exploited.

The MEN are exploiting the women.
They are taking advantage of their dire circumstances.
However....without the men, the women would have no other source of money.

if u ever went ud realise that noone is being exploited
for thai women serve there man is a way of life
so if there being paid to do it then all the better even if it is a diff man every nite
u may be surprised now many of the girls actually enjoy what there doing tho its true that lots dont
