I guess I would like to know what kind of door you have. If it's wood, take the time to strip, and sand it and stain it a nice reddish tint. It it's a metal door, go with the grey blue color, as long as you dont have a screen door the same color

What kind of colors do you like, and what kind of a look are you going for? Three colors jumped to mind for your colonial style house.

The color red means welcome when used on the front door. Porters Paints makes one called 'Bing Cherry' that is a true deep red that would be in keeping with a traditional look.

Another classic, more formal color, is a glossy black.

If you want to be a little more playful with your colors try a deep purple-think eggplant. Might sound a bit odd, but with the existing colors of your house aubergine would be very handsome.

Here are a couple of tips- Find someone that can spray your door. A good painter will have access to a 'paint room'. If your door is not new, a reputable painter will talk to you about how to remove old tape, and how he/she will prep to get rid of dings and flaws.

Dark colors will take many coats of paint to show the depth and true color of the paint. Beware if anyone tells you they can do a good job painting a dark color in one coat.

A sprayed door, properly prepped, looks flawless- and makes it easier the next time you want to change the color of your door!

I pay our painter $150 to do our door, which I change about once every year or two. He closes the opening with heavy plastic and seals the edges with heavy duty tape. (I put our dog's crate by the front door at night while the door is gone just to feel safer)

We live in an arid climate and the door is gone no more than 2 days, but that may vary depending how humid an environment you live in. The paint on the door, once returned, cures (completely dry and hardened) in about 48 hours.

If your garage doors face the same direction as your front door, consider painting them the same color as the front door- fantastic curb appeal!

Good Luck!

Hi Joanna, Let's see what you've got... Dream opens by commenting on your insecurity ("lock") where others are concerned ("seeing someone walking on my street" + "I do not recognize"). The fact that you do not recognize means that there is something you are unsure of, therefore, you do not recognize it. The street may indicate a path in your life which someone else may also be on. At least as far as you are concerned and the need to keep something safe. You are at home ("front door"). Are you on the porch? Because you are at home, seems to hint to something a bit personal ("ensuring my protection"). The front door shows welcome and/or opportunity. About that lock... "the door never locks". Whatever you are attempting to secure, you are having difficulty with. Dream says you're having a problem getting a handle on things ("whenever the handle is pushed-") it is too easy to make you insecure about a certain matter ("the door unlocks"). Is there a man in your life ("always ends up with theman coming towards the door"). Again, the door is opportunity and someone else, in your dream is finding it easy to unlock your door ('and opening it"). Think on that! PS: The fact that this is recurring means that it is something that keeps coming to mind and you are having difficulty resolving why this keeps happening to you. The dream says you may be open to someone's advances and you can't seem to lock them out of having easy access to your open doors. -Ginger

deep red would make a statement. It would pop with the yellow siding. This color should only be used if you want the door to be very noticeable. Especially nice if the door has nice archetictural features.

Try some grayish shades of blue (one of the colonial blues). I checked out the mysteria blue mentioned below and I think that would work nicely, or you could make it a touch bluer. But, yes, blue-gray would be nice and looks great against the brick too.

We have a reddish colonial brick with black shutters. Our door is red (Cranapple from Pratt and Lambert)

I think red would look really pretty.
It also brings good "chi" and is welcoming.
(read about Feng Shui to see why red front doors are excellent).
