Those going straight to heaven are those that are born of God through faith in Jesus Christ the Lord, Lamb of God. Their names are written in the Lamb's book of life. This is the first resurrection that started when Christ raised from the dead & completed before the 1000 year reign of Christ. The second death will not have any power over them. They will be priests of God & Christ & shall reign with him a thousand years.
There are other books to be opened after the 1000 year reign of Christ. A book of life where the dead are judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
And the sea gave up the dead that were in it;
Death & hell delivered up the dead that were in them. And they were judged everone according to their works.

Death & hell were cast into the lake of fire (the second death).

Whoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Then there is a new heaven & a new earth...

Reading these scriptures in Revelations 20 reveals to me that people either go to heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ (Christians & Israelis who are saved by grace, blood of the lamb.). The second death has no power over them. Also, perishable building blocks are fried & doesn't go to heaven with. The non-perishable building blocks are faith, hope & love & is rewarded. Special rewards are given for works rooted in faith, hope & love.
Some people get great rewards while some get none. Yet both have eternal life because they have received the free gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ the Lamb of God & the ressurection.

The rest of the dead, they go to where the dead go, or they go where the dead & sea are, or they go where the dead & hell are. Then after the 1000 year reign, the great white throne judgment, where they stand before God. Where they are judged by their works. Where the second death, lake of fire is threatened to those whose names are not written in the books of life.

To add a side note. In the book of Job, the earth is a circuit & the heavens are a circuit. Seventh heaven would be the complete heavens. Paul mentioned the 3rd heaven.

Heaven is achieved through deed, not creed.
-- Emanuel Swedenborg

Cosmic justice manifests itself by the soul's ability or inability to ascend into The Light or Master-Vibration. This is not determined by one's god icon but by one's ability to love genuinely and deeply, as well as one's application of The Golden Rule.

Of course there are better "heavens" than others. A spiritual plane is all a matter of degree in The Light.

The higher the plane, the greater the expansion of consciousness, the brighter it is, the greater the level of energy, and the more spiritual the dimension.

To answer your second question, the person who did good works would ascend to a higher level in The Light than the person who just ritualistically worshipped God.

Why?

Because the first person cultivated his or her ability to love genuinely and deeply and to a greater extent than the second person.

I always thought of Heaven, if such a place exists, as being able to see family and friends long since passed from your life. A place where the weather is always sunny and nice and it's always springtime. Lots of rolling meadows, crystal clear blue oceans, skies with puffy white clouds, etc. A place where all the dreams god denied you in life, can finally come true.

The Medieval scholastics argued that the souls in heaven are like a number of goblets of different sizes. All the goblets are full. But the larger goblets hold more. So all the souls are equal, but the souls with the greatest capacity to love have more.

properly the Bible teaches that each and one and all have sinned and are available wanting the honour of God. we are all dserving of Hell. there is none righteous no no longer one says Romans 3:10. The Bible additionally teaches that the very terrific a guy or woman can do in and of themself is like affliction ridden rags to God. to pass to Heaven takes God's very own righteousness imputed to a guy or woman who trusts in Christ for salvation. each little thing else falls short.

there are 7 levels to heaven. the first level can be considered the "worst" heaven but its still REALLLLLLYYYY good. God stays on the topmost level. martyrs are on the 5th, prophets on the 6th.....something like that.
