Ok, I'm here to vent! Chase charged me 40 bucks for a reversed payment! It's my 1st time to pay online and it all went bad. The reason is that I have a BOA account. I used all the 16 digits numbers found on my check card - just like the way I order online. How would I know? It didn't specify that numbers should be entered is my "real account" number not "all" the digits in my check card! Urrrggghhh! What should I enter? 16 digits or real account no? How would I know???!!! Online payment is doomed! I said I applied to get rewards, not to be ripped off! That pisses me off... to enter the 16 digits number found on the card or the real account no. But heck! everytime I order or buy something online, I only need the 16 digits! It's confusing!!!!

Call them. Be calm and be polite. Tell them your story and be nice about your error. Ask them to remove the charge. If you have to, ask NICELY to speak to a manager. They'll probably remove the charge.

Good luck.

It is okay to use either when paying online if they give you the option. If you use the 16 digits on your check card, then the money will be taken out of your account almost instantly. If you use your checking account (bank draft) then it could take a day or two.

Call Chase and ask them to reverse the fee. If they say no, call them back until they say yes.

I am mildly upset with them as well (the credit card division). Last week called them up to see if I could get my current card switched to my school card. They said no, I will have to apply for the alumni card. They transferred me to a call center in India, and the guy taking my application, jesus christ, I had to repeat AND spell everything 2 or 3 times. The application took about 45 minutes!!!!!

I got the alumni card yesterday and I called to activate the new one and close the old one. I got the card activated, however they had to transfer me to the close center. This was another Indian call center. "Eddie from Chicago" answered. Eddie wanted to tell me about some incentives to keep my card open. I told him that I am still a customer, just with another Chase card with a higher limit, 0% interest on everything for a year and donations to my alma mater. The 5th time he asked me about the old card, I asked him if he wanted me to hang up and he said YES so I DID.

I never have a problem with Chase Customer Service in America, only those stupid useless Indian call centers.

I use Chase and they explain quite clearly that you need to use the account number, not a card number. That means get out your checks and use the 7 numbers in the second group. The first group is your routing number which you also have to give them.

I suggest this. Call Chase and explain what happened. They might very well remove the charge on your account if you explain the problem to them and not be confrontational, especially if your account is in good standing.
