It's possible, yes. It just depends on how you break your neck.

Break it one way, you're dead. Another way, you're paralyzed. And yet another way, you're fine, other than the broken neck.

THere is that possiblity.

Every nerve for every part of your body (except those in your head obviously) has to travel through the spinal cord that is encased in the vertibrae of your neck. When someone breaks their neck (or any spinal injury for that matter) there exist the very strong possiblity that some nerves will be severed or damaged. Since every persons body is just a little different and obviously every injury to the spine / neck is different one can't guess what is injured until time plays out and the symptons of nevre damage appears.

Some paralisis is permenant, some temporary. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to determine exactly what the future holds once the damage has been done.

Hope this helps!

Yes. Depending upon where in the neck the break occurs will depend upon the severity of other injuries. The basic rule is the higher up the break the worse your chances are because of the nerves that control your body. The ones that control your heart and lungs are closest to your head and thus severing them through a break would be worost of all. However if you break your neck closer to your shoulders then chances are beeter that you will survive and may or may not face paralization.

You could or become a quadripeligic (paralyzed from the neck down), or you could die, or you could not become paralyzed at all. It really depends on where the fracture is and the severity of it.

And people, Christopher Reeve was NOT paralyzed from the waist down..he was paralyzed from the neck down!!! BIG difference

Yes or even from the neck down. It depends on which vertebra is broken and how whether the spinal cord is severed.

The flip side is you can break your neck and not be paralyzed. Like mentioned previously, it all depends on where the break took place and what was affected.

yes, Cristopher Reeve did. He severed his spine at the level of C2(the second vertebra).

If you just fracture the bones of the neck, then that is not that bad of a problem, when the spinal cord is severed , that is A BIG PROBLEM
