First, make sure you really want a Chow. They are not an easy dog to train, and can be very stubborn and aggressive.
Find a good breeder referral by going to www.akc.org or talking to people at dog shows. This is a breed that can have many problems - you should get the best one you can!

You can also find info about the breed clubs on the akc site - they probably have a rescue group where you can get an older dog for less money.

The best breeders will be members of their breed club, promoting healthy dogs with great temperaments. They should ask you a bunch of questions to make sure their puppy will be getting a good home. If all a "breeder" seems to care about is whether your check will clear, you can be sure he won't care a week later when the pup is dying from distemper or parvo and you want your money back.
Whatever you do, DON'T go to a pet shop, a flea market or buy one sight-unseen off the Internet!!!! You'll pay top dollar for what is usually a poor quality puppy mill dog that is often sick and may have falsified registration papers. And you'll be supporting one of the cruelest industries in the country.

look in the news paper or at dog breeds info center on google or yahoo search. if you find a site with a basset hound with a magifine glass, and click all breed on the left, and click C in the alphabet, and scroll for chow-chow. click find a breeder and you can find a chow chow and other idems. good luck!♥

I have had numerous breeds of dogs which I have trained. I do not work with Chows. They can be aggressive with children. I had a friend who had two, she was very good with them and she had total control until she had children. She had to have them destroyed. It was very sad.

CHOWS are an fairly unswerving shielding breed. Improperly socialized or knowledgeable, they could be fairly a threat to every person drawing close your self or your homestead. the place those canines originate from they are used to guard property.

Go to the AKC site & READ THE BREED STANDARD!!! RESEARCH!
Otherwise, you WILL get SCAMMED! That's a guarentee! There are crooks out there just WAITING for your money & they'll LAUGH all the way to the bank!
NEVER,EVER,EVER buy on-line OR from a petstore. Only JUNK *ever* available! ONLY BUY *DIRECTLY* from a REPUTABLE BREEDER!
